The Unio Trium Nationum: Transylvania's Medieval Social Order
Om avsnittet
In this episode of The History of Romania, Lucas and Luna explore the Unio Trium Nationum—the Union of the Three Nations that defined Transylvania's political structure from 1437 onward. They examine how the Hungarian nobility, Saxon burghers, and Székely frontiersmen forged an alliance that excluded the majority Romanian population from power for centuries. The conversation covers the 1437 peasant uprising led by Antal Budai Nagy, the Kolozsmonostor agreement, the legal status of the 'tolerated nation,' and the long-term consequences for Romanian national identity. Listeners will learn about the Diploma Leopoldinum, the Supplex Libellus Valachorum, and how the union shaped the region until 1848.
