The Mothman's Warning

In 1966, Point Pleasant, West Virginia, became the center of a strange series of sightings involving the creature now known as the Mothman. Witnesses described a tall, winged figure with glowing red eyes appearing along back roads and near the abandoned TNT area outside town.

For thirteen months, Mothman sightings fueled rumors and fear across Point Pleasant. Then, on December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed into the Ohio River, killing 46 people. In the aftermath, the Mothman legend became forever connected to the disaster, transforming the mysterious creature into something more ominous: a possible warning or omen of tragedy.

In this episode of The House of Strange, we explore the original Mothman sightings, the TNT area, the Silver Bridge disaster, and how one of America’s most famous cryptid legends became inseparable from the history and folklore of Point Pleasant.
