I can’t believe it took 199 episodes but I finally got, not just one of my favourite bands, but a group I grew up with – an outfit that I’ve known and championed for my entire career as a music journalist – on an episode of the podcast. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, all who fall in between, on this episode I’m speaking to Ross Millard and Barry Hyde from Sunderland new wave punk pop art rock sensations, The Futureheads.
I first met The Futureheads when I was just eighteen years old. They were even younger. They used to play my club night, Boyeater, all the time. Over the years we’ve shared all sorts of adventures together. Some of them in music spaces, many of them outside of music, and on this episode we revisit some of our shared memories, but also look to the future - no pun intended. I’m splitting this conversation over two episodes, with part two, episode 200, following tomorrow, after which I’m going to be taking another break from the podcast. The difference this time is that I know I’ll be coming back - but coming back with some aesthetic changes. Stick around, you'll dig it!
But for now... it's The Futureheads!
