Friends, it has been a time. Oh yes. It has been a time.
But hey, considerably later than I intended to publish this episode, here’s episode 48 of this here music podcast – recorded on my guests birthday no less! – a conversation with James Veck-Gilodi from British pop rock champs Deaf Havana, a band who are in every way possible, returning harder, faster, stronger… and dryer too. Which is great news.
I’ve thought that James was one of this country’s very best songwriters for years now and I couldn’t be happier to learn that he’s found the tools needed to make good on the promise that has always been there. There’s some harrowing stuff in this episode. Drink and the pressures of making a living through creativity can do that to you. But James’ story doesn’t end in the gutter, but – to paraphrase that old hack Oscar Wilde – looking up, and reaching for the stars. In advance of the band's – now a two piece – forthcoming 6th album proper, The Present Is a Foreign Land, out July 15th, meet James Veck-Gilodi V2.0.
(NB: I obviously call the record The Past Is a Foreign Land in the episode intro because I'm a fucking idiot, but you know this about me and this podcast, and I think it's why you like it.)
