Episode 89: Holly Ross, The Lovely Eggs

This episode has been a long time coming. I was a big fan of Holly Ross’ teenage band Angelica. I’m an even bigger fan of the band she’s been in for the last sixteen years, the Lancaster based duo The Lovely Eggs. Comprising Holly and husband David Blackwell – but not their son, I repeat, not their son – the group are a band whose sometimes funny, sometimes sweet, always loud and exciting songs, always make their way onto mixtapes I might be making, while 2020’s excellent sixth record, I Am Moron is - and this is the scientific term for it - a total bloody hoot.

As I say, this conversation has been in the making for ages and ages now, but we’re all busy people. Holly and David have a child, as well as a 24/7 DIY punk rock operation to maintain. We fit this conversation in just before Holly had to go do the school run in fact. But it’s a fun 40 minutes, which goes into some interesting places; death, the brilliance of books, existentialism, the problem with Gen Z, and I believe that at one point I call Martin Bashir a shit. Which I stand by, by the way…
