Murder Made Fiction: Hounds of Love (2016)

In 2016, Ben Young's disturbing Hounds of Love took the Venice International Film Festival by storm. This disturbing story of torture and extreme codependency won over critics while star Ashleigh Cummings secured the Fedeora Award for Best Actress. But while commending the film’s harrowing appeal, audiences noticed a striking similarity to the real crimes of David and Katherine Birnie. 

Young has distanced himself from the true crime label, but does this film feel like an adaptation of a single story or pulled from a variety of horrific crimes?
