Freedom and form have always found active equilibrium in the music of Dave Douglas. A trumpeter, composer and bandleader of conscientious creativity, he returns with a new release, Four Freedoms, showcasing his quartet: Marta Warelis on piano, Nick Dunston on bass and Joey Baron on drums.
The album draws inspiration from President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 address outlining what he described as four essential human freedoms. It’s a proposition worth revisiting at this moment — for a number of reasons.
