"The Substance"

For this week's third podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, Lauren LaMagna, Alyssa Christian & Dan Bayer to review and discuss the newest film from Coralie Fargeat, "The Substance," starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley & Dennis Quaid. After its world premiere at Cannes, where it won the festival's Best Screenplay prize, many have been anxiously awaiting to experience what is considered a new body horror classic and one of 2024's very best films. The film is an onslaught of maximalist filmmaking with grotesque imagery, impactful sound, and dramatically effective performances mixed with a satirical tone that pokes at our preconceived notions of beauty, aging, and self-image. What did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss the performances, writing, direction, makeup effects, its awards season potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!
