Breaking Things Off

The plaintiff says he and the defendant dated and they split the cost of a medical device. The defendant promised she’d pay for half but never did, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is just mad that she broke up with him and that’s why they’re in court.  Then, The plaintiff is an arborist and was hired to remove trees from the defendant’s land. The state of New Jersey forbade him from removing some that were on wetlands, but the defendant refused to pay, so he’s suing. The defendant says she never hired the plaintiff and just asked for an estimate. She claims he did all the work while she was on vacation.
