Getting Cold Feet

The plaintiff says he proposed to the defendant, he gave her a ring, and they got married. One month later, she asked for an annulment, but she won’t return the ring. He’s suing for its value. The defendant says the plaintiff wanted her to be a submissive wife. She says the ring is hers, and she’s not giving it back. She’s countersuing for legal fees.  The plaintiff says his wife died and he informed the defendant, his landlord, that he was giving his 30 days’ notice to move out. The defendant then told him she’d have to rent the place first before returning his security deposit, so he’s suing. The defendant says she told the plaintiff he was short on rent one month, so she deducted that from his deposit. He also left eight days late, so she owes him nothing.  The plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor, and the neighbor’s dog put his snout under the fence and mauled her dog’s paw. She’s suing for the vet bills.
