Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. – Carl Jung

Film Analysis:

There is some simple yet great imagery that clues us into their relationship, told in a single composition. Here we can see what could just as easily be thought as a chess match, two men sitting across from each other at a small table, and even the checkered floor induces the image of a chess board.

Once again the image speaks for itself, this has the makings of a therapy session. Even the dialog reflects that dynamic as Black dives into White’s relationship with his father.

Here the composition has White gazing into the light, symbolic of his goal to stare down an oncoming train.

What’s interesting about this image is how Black intercedes, he’s now standing between the White and his goal.

More interesting still is if we watch the clip of this we can see the camera even pans away from the light in response to Black’s interruption, a clear picture of their entire relationship, and Black even directly addresses the plight.
