While he’s busy wallowing in the bottom of a glass, the snark squad is getting the tragic backstory on Sophie Baek, the illegitimate "ward" of Lord Penwood who has been playing Cinderella in a house full of Regency-era mean girls. The tension peaks as Sophie’s stepmother finally kicks her to the curb, leading to a "heroic" encounter that reunites our star-crossed leads—though it’s hard to tell if the chemistry is real or if Benedict is just seeing silver spots from all the booze. Between the tragic flashbacks and Benedict’s drunken search party, this episode proves that finding your soulmate is a lot harder when you’re hungover and your stepmother is a total nightmare.
