There were no witnesses to any of the homicides, and investigators had struggled until a hair found at one scene was tested using early DNA testing methods. The Southside Strangler investigation was a landmark case involving DNA testing evidence. Eventually, one man was exonerated for crimes he didn't commit, while Timothy Wilson Spencer was convicted of these horrific crimes and eventually sentenced to death.
