Today’s reading (Jn 12:1-11) presents two noteworthy characters who play opposite roles in the Lord’s passion and typify man’s relation to Christ: Mary of Bethany and Judas.

Mary anoints the feet of her Savior for His burial and dries them with her hair. Judas resents her action and resolves upon his evil course.

Judas the Iscariot, one of the disciples, and the one who would betray Jesus was presented as a thief as he held the money bag and used it to steal the contributions.
