In today's Qigong podcast, Torsten Lueddecke sits down with Yvette Martin — a single mother of three from Sydney, Australia, who was given weeks to live after a third recurrence of brain cancer, said no to debilitating surgery, and went on to make a recovery that left her oncologist speechless. Yvette's story is one of the most extraordinary healing journeys to ever be shared on this podcast, and it is a testament to the transformative power of Zhineng Qigong and the unshakeable human will to live.

First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, Yvette navigated chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation while simultaneously deepening her understanding of holistic health. When the cancer returned in her brain — unusually as a single, operable lesion — Qigong had already begun protecting her body in ways that even her oncologist couldn't fully explain. It was only with the third recurrence, when surgeons told her the operation would likely leave her in a wheelchair, that Yvette made the bold decision to refuse surgery and pursue a full integrative healing approach.

What followed was a radical commitment to recovery: high-dose supplements, integrative oncology, infrared saunas, acupuncture, colonics, energy healing — and at the centre of it all, hours of daily Zhineng Qigong practice. With almost no voice, severe swallowing difficulties, a winged shoulder blade, and weighing just 41 kilos, Yvette attended a 10-day Qigong retreat on the Gold Coast — and by the end, her voice had returned as a whisper. She then travelled to China for a month-long healing residency, immersed herself in the group Qi field, and came home without her microphone. Today, she has full range of motion in her arm, eats whatever she wants, has her energy back, and has completed her Zhineng Qigong teacher certification.

One of the most powerful insights Yvette shares is the shift from practising Qigong out of obligation to practising out of pure love — the moment the practice stops being medicine you take and becomes the thing you cannot wait to do. This, she explains, is when the real healing truly begins.

🎙️ Yvette now teaches Zhineng Qigong online and runs a weekly support group for people navigating chronic or serious health challenges — a space held not from pity, but from the deep knowing that every person is a powerful, capable being having a difficult human experience.

🪨 Mindful Moments from This Episode:

  • Zhineng Qigong may have protected Yvette's body during cancer, concentrating scattered cells into a single operable tumour — a pattern her oncologist had never seen before
  • Qigong practice shifts from something you do to heal, to something you love — and that shift is when the deepest healing begins
  • The group Qi field in Zhineng Qigong is not local — practicing online while connecting to the global community of practitioners amplifies the healing effect profoundly
  • Trusting the body during extreme weight loss is a radical act; Qigong teaches us that the body knows what it needs, even when it looks frightening from the outside
  • Commitment to healing sends a message to the unconscious — Qigong combined with total dedication recreates the environment of the legendary Medicineless Hospital
  • Protecting yourself from other people's fear is a form of Qigong self-care — the information others project into your Qi field matters
  • Qigong practice becomes most powerful when you stop digging multiple shallow holes and go deep into one practice — like digging for water, depth is what finds the source
  • A Zhineng Qigong support community built around strength rather than victimhood creates a completely different healing field for those facing serious illness
  • The oncologist who once said neurological damage is permanent was left asking Yvette what she was doing — Qigong healing can exceed the boundaries of medical expectation
  • Standing shoulder to shoulder in community — not as caretakers, but as equals — is itself a Qigong principle: we rise in the Qi field together
