Gaslighting is a psychological term used to make the other feel uncertain in her perceptions, memories, and beliefs. The author speaks about her own experience navigating the healthcare system on behalf of her child with disabilities. Within her book, she identifies twenty-four gaslighting strategies that she has been exposed to. The author uses the word "unintentional" because she is not ascribing intention to doctor's communication and behavior. The author's story begins with the conception of twin sons after she underwent four IVF (In vitro fertilization) treatments. She was encouraged to have multiples (twins or more) and was never informed about the risks associated with multiples. She now identifies the withholding of information as a gaslighting technique and that is where this interview begins.
