Dr. Jeanine Cook-Garard and WHPC student Tova Zaretsky talks with Tom Gibson, author of “Lost In The System.” They discuss the challenges and triumphs of having family members with hearing impairments, something that affects Tova’s family as well. Tom’s book chronicles the story of how his son Max, a deaf child with a cochlear implant, overcame the odds and learned to read after the school district was unable to properly educate him. For over 6 years, Tom filed state and civil complaints and appeals to get Max reading services. Ultimately, Max’s ability to go into all general education classes by 9th grade proves Max always had the ability to succeed.
