Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley — Chapter 20
Victor recoils from the consequences of creating a second creature and destroys his unfinished work as the first creature watches in fury. Their confrontation ends with a chilling promise: the creature will be with Victor on his wedding-night.
Determined never to resume his work, Victor secretly disposes of its remains at sea. But after falling asleep in his small boat, he is blown far from the Scottish island and eventually reaches Ireland—where his relief at finding land abruptly vanishes when he learns that he is suspected in the murder of a man found the previous night.
