Michael Simon: Composing Rooms

In this episode of By Invitation, host Caroline Slaten sits down with acclaimed interior designer Michael Simon to explore the unexpected connection between composing music and composing a room. A pianist from the age of three, Michael trained as a composer under the legendary Stephen Sondheim, ultimately shaping not only the way he understands music, but the way he approaches interiors.

Michael Simon is a New York-based interior designer, furniture creator, and collector who began his career in the world of music. His design philosophy is deeply informed by his musical background, emphasizing composition fundamentals such as line, balance, harmony, rhythm, counterpoint and orchestration.
