In today’s episode of Cozy Comfort Club, I’m sharing my thoughts on Flower Shop Mystery: Snipped in the Bud, a Hallmark mystery released in 2016 that brings us back to New Chapel, Illinois, this time with a more layered case, a college setting, and higher stakes for our amateur sleuth.
This is a spoiler free review, so you can decide if you want to add it to your watchlist.
This episode focuses less on what happens and more on how the mystery feels.
Snipped in the Bud still leans into a classic cozy mystery setup with a small town, familiar characters, and an amateur sleuth who cannot help but get involved, but this installment introduces a slightly more tense tone, with Abby herself becoming part of the investigation in a much more direct way.
At the center is Abby Knight, a former lawyer turned flower shop owner, who finds herself not just investigating a murder, but also being considered a suspect, which shifts the overall energy of the story.
In this episode:
* the overall feel of the mystery and how it compares to the first film in the series
* the shift in tone and why this one feels a little less cozy but still comforting
* the college setting and why academic environments work so well for mystery storytelling
* Abby as a main character, her determination, instincts, and tendency to insert herself into situations
* the dynamic between Abby and Marco, including his softer and more supportive presence and their ongoing tension
* the group dynamic between Abby, Marco, Nikki, and her dad, and how it evolves in this installment
* the suspects, motives, and structure of the mystery, and whether it keeps things engaging
* the role of small town gossip and how it impacts both the case and Abby’s reputation
* how this film compares to other cozy mysteries in terms of tone, pacing, and overall watchability
