TV Tuesday: The Forsytes (2026) Episode 4 — Choosing Yourself vs. Family Expectations

13 min14 april 2026

In today’s TV Tuesday, we’re diving into The Forsytes season 1, episode 4 on PBS Masterpiece, where the tension continues to build beneath the surface.

This episode really centers on choosing yourself versus choosing your family, and we see that conflict play out across multiple characters. From Jo trying to convince himself he’s at peace, to Soames becoming more intense in Paris, there’s a quiet unraveling happening throughout.

The emotional weight also deepens here, especially with Luisa and the children, which shifts the tone slightly while still holding onto that soft, period-drama atmosphere.

This is the kind of episode that lingers… the kind you want to sit with—or even unpack in a cozy watch club discussion.

What I Talk About

* Jo’s internal conflict, Luisa and the children, and the emotional weight of his choices

* Soames and Irene’s dynamic, and the growing tension between romance and control

* June’s impulsive engagement to Philip and the ripple effect within the family

* Frances holding everything together on the surface while quietly unraveling

* The shifting family dynamics around power, reputation, and expectation

* The contrast between what appears calm on the surface and what’s really happening underneath

Cozy Takeaways

* A more emotionally heavy episode, especially with the children’s storyline

* Still visually cozy with beautiful settings and period detail

* Relationship dynamics that feel layered, complicated, and increasingly tense

* A slower, character-driven episode that feels like it’s building toward something bigger

Cozy Reflection

This episode felt a little less cozy for me at times, mainly because of the children being sick. That just hits differently.

But more than anything, this episode explores what it means to do the “right thing.” For many of these characters, what looks right on the outside doesn’t align with what they truly want or need.

I’m also starting to feel more discomfort with certain dynamics, especially Soames. What may seem romantic on the surface is beginning to feel more controlling the closer we look.

At the same time, I’m fully invested. The performances are strong, the tension is building, and it feels like these secrets are getting closer to the surface with every episode.
