In today’s TV Tuesday, we’re diving into The Forsytes season 1, episode 5 on PBS Masterpiece, where everything starts to feel even more intense and a lot less contained.
This episode really centers on control versus autonomy, and we see that play out across almost every character. From Soames tightening his grip on Irene, to Frances orchestrating events behind the scenes, to Jo trying (and struggling) to do the right thing, there’s a growing sense that no one is truly in control… even when they think they are.
The emotional weight deepens here, especially with Luisa and the children, and the fallout from the Forsyte & Co. disaster adds another layer of tension that starts to spill into every part of their lives.
This is the kind of episode that feels heavier, a little more chaotic, and definitely like everything is building toward something big.

Cozy Reflection
This episode felt heavier for me, not just emotionally, but in the sense that everything is starting to feel more unstable.
There’s a strong theme of control running through this episode, and it really made me think about what happens when people try to control situations, relationships, and even each other. Whether it’s coming from a place of love, fear, or status, it never really leads to peace.
I’m also finding myself increasingly uncomfortable with certain dynamics, especially Soames. At this point, it’s not even subtle anymore. What might have once felt romantic now feels much more like control and manipulation.
At the same time, I’m completely invested. There are so many moving parts, the performances are incredibly strong, and it really feels like we’re heading into a powerful finale.
