In May 1996, Leon Laureles arrived early for his overnight shift at Kroger in Brownwood, Texas. He parked his car — and never made it inside.
Less than thirty minutes later, his Ford Thunderbird was found burning near a gun range along FM Road 2126 in Brown County. Leon was discovered nearby, shot execution-style.
Nearly 30 years later, his murder remains unsolved.
This episode examines the troubling details surrounding Leon’s case — including a recused sheriff, early investigative theories, lost evidence, alleged suspects, and why Leon’s family believes his murder was never properly investigated.
Leon Laureles was 30 years old. He was gay, Hispanic, and deeply loved by his family. His niece Arlene has spent decades fighting for answers.
