ENG #70 Cindie Christiansen Top 50 Farmers - Why Community Will Feed the World

1 tim 13 min13 september 2026

Om avsnittet

That single question took Cindie Christiansen from a corporate trainee desk in Copenhagen all the way back to the soil. In this episode of Nourishing Ideas we follow her journey from a business degree and a “sensible” career to founding Foodprint Nordic and, later, Top 50 Farmers – a Europe-wide initiative that puts pioneering regenerative farmers on the map. Not a ranking, but a spotlight on the people already showing the way.

The conversation goes far beyond recognition. Cindie explains why the biggest barrier to regeneration is not the farmer but the system around them: the debt, the policy, the cheap-food expectation we all keep feeding. She shares what she has learned from reading hundreds of farm applications – and why she cries every year when she does.

For those of you building something of your own, this episode is full of entrepreneurial thinking: taking one step at a time, checking whether a decision comes from scarcity or from purpose, and why speed was never a factor when building a movement that now counts 100, soon 150, farmers across Europe.

In this episode you will hear:

* Why farming with nature is sometimes, quite literally, illegal – and what that says about the system we have built around our food

* What the most profitable regenerative farms have in common (hint: it’s never one crop) – and why “relational infrastructure” may be the real answer to “how do we feed the world?”

* Why only 12% of European farmers are under 40, and who is quietly showing up instead: women and newcomers with no farming background at all

Listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts – and if it moves you, forward it to one farmer, chef or entrepreneur who needs to hear it. Visit top50farmers.org, read the farmers’ stories, and if you know a farmer who is showing the way, nominate them when applications open on October 6. And then, ask yourself: when was the last time you actually met the person who grew your food – and what would change in how you eat, buy and build if you did?

Besides the podcast, you’ll soon find — during Q2 2026— an educational program on how to build a regenerative business or create a sustainably functioning company.

The interviews will continue to be freely available to everyone, and we truly appreciate any kind of support — whether through subscribing or contributing financially in any way.

Some reflection episodes, which will form part of the educational material I’ll start publishing this fall, will be available exclusively to paying subscribers. If you want to listen to those — this is a good time to become a subscriber!

In addition to the interviews, there will be a learning program open to everyone, but I’ll also mix in deeper-dive episodes on specific topics, which will be reserved for paying subscribers.
