Matthew 16:13-20 — Peter Declares that Jesus is the Messiah (Ep.053), Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Jesus asks “Who do you say I am?” In this week’s bible reading. Peter answers, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus tells Peter he is blessed for saying this and tells Peter that he did not know this from his own understanding but it was revealed to him by the Father. There are some difficult teachings in this passage that churches interpret differently. Some common beliefs though are that Jesus builds the church. Also he gives the church the responsibility and authority to decide what behavior is allowed and disallowed. Then he tells his disciples not to tell anyone (yet) that he is the Messiah. How about you? Who do you say Jesus is? There are many different beliefs about Jesus. Do you believe he is the Savior of your soul and that he is the Son of God?
