Between the fall of the Ayyubids and the rise of the Zaydi imamate, a Turkoman dynasty ruled Yemen from 1229 to 1454—the Rasulids. This episode explores how Sultan al-Malik al-Muzaffar Yusuf I built an observatory in Ta'izz and patronized scholars who produced pioneering works in astronomy, agriculture, and medicine. We discuss the Rasulid agricultural handbook that cataloged over 200 plant varieties, the dynasty's diplomatic correspondence with the Delhi Sultanate and the Mamluks, and their architectural legacy in the citadel of Ta'izz.
