The Fall of Kabul: Untold Stories from the Taliban Takeover

Nayanima Basu is an award-winning journalist and Delhi-based author with extensive experience in international relations, strategic affairs, geopolitics, and geoeconomics. Over the past two decades, she has held senior editorial positions in leading Indian and international media organisations, while also contributing to several independent global publications.

As a senior journalist, she continues to write reports and analyses for multiple outlets. Her on-ground reportage from Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover in August 2021 earned her widespread recognition from media organisations and geopolitical experts alike.

In this conversation, Basu discusses her book 'The Fall of Kabul: Dispatches from Chaos', where she shares her firsthand experiences from Afghanistan during the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. The book has received accolades both in India and abroad, and also won her a prestigious author award.

Beyond journalism, Nayanima writes in-depth research articles for think tanks. She currently serves as an Adjunct Fellow at the Mumbai-based Gateway House and as a Visiting Researcher at GIFU Women’s University in Japan.
