Writing Chooses Its Form: Perumal Murugan On His Creative Process

Mr Perumal Murugan is a renowned writer, scholar, and literary chronicler. He has authored 12 novels, ten of which have been translated into English, including the widely acclaimed One Part Woman, A Lonely Harvest, Poonachi: Or the Story of a Black Goat, and Pyre. He has received several prestigious literary honors, including the Kiriyama Prize in 2005 and the JCB Prize for Literature in 2023. He was also longlisted for the International Booker Prize in 2023. Film rights for Pyre and several of his short stories have been acquired.

Mr Murugan is joined joined by Kavita Muralidharan, a bilingual journalist from Tamil Nadu with over 25 years of experience covering politics, culture, and gender. Kavita is also a noted writer and translator, having translated many of Mr. Murugan’s works.
