Faith: The Passion for the Impossible

What does it mean to truly walk by faith rather than by sight? In this meditation, Fr. Luke Mata reflects on St. Paul’s teaching that Christians are called to trust God even when His plans seem difficult, uncertain, or impossible. Drawing on the examples of Abraham, Noah, Moses, Mary, Joseph, the apostles, and the early Christians, he emphasizes that faith is not merely intellectual belief but a way of life that requires trust, sacrifice, risk, perseverance, and stepping beyond our comfort zone. Fr. Luke describes faith as the spiritual “oxygen” that enables us to live according to our true destiny in heaven and encourages us to ask what we are willing to risk for God. He concludes by pointing to Mary’s trust at the Annunciation and at the foot of the Cross, inviting us to believe that “nothing will be impossible for God” and to walk by faith even in moments of darkness.
