Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 64, we get political, welcoming vocalist Victoria Marie and guitarist Joey La Neve DeFrancesco of NYC outfit Downtown Boys!

Victoria and Joey first met at union meetings while working together at a hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, brought together to write early songs about issues including exploitative workplaces. Before too long, the collective had three full length albums under their belts and have become known for a raucous live show, whilst still keeping politics front and center.

New album ‘Public Luxury’ is out June 2026 via Sub Pop - arriving nearly a decade after their Sub Pop debut ‘Costof Living’. I caught up with Victoria and Joey over Zoom in April 2026, where we spoke of the new record, as well as cassette tapes, the cost of touring, activism, fighting the good fight and remembering Victoria Marie’s late grandmother - the number one Downtown Boys fan.
