At 22, St. Bernard of Clairvaux showed up at a monastery gate with thirty friends who all wanted to become monks.
St. Bernard gave up wealth and comfort to found the monastery of Clairvaux, bringing thirty companions with him. He grew close to Jesus through Lectio Divina — slowly praying with Scripture until it opened like a door — and through a tender devotion to Our Lady, whom he called the aqueduct of God's grace. He went on to found 68 monasteries and became known as the "honey-sweet Doctor."
"We want to become monks."
