TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 5:23–24
[23] So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, [24] leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (ESV)
SUMMARY
We read Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:23–24 and sit with the uncomfortable order he gives: reconcile first, then bring your gift. We connect the altar to modern giving and ask God for courage to address relational wounds before they fester.
• Matthew’s image of a gift at the altar as an act of worship through sacrifice
• A modern translation of the passage through tithes, gifts, and generous giving
• Stopping mid-worship when we remember someone has something against us
• Why unresolved relational wounds grow worse and affect everyone around us
• Jesus’ call to unity and harmony among his people
• The hard work of naming the elephant in the room
• A closing prayer for the Holy Spirit’s power to help us obey and make things right
