TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE:

Romans 8:11

[11] If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. (ESV)

SUMMARY

We read Romans 8:11 slowly and sit with the promise that God’s Spirit brings life and strength to our mortal bodies. We name the reality of pain and chronic illness while holding on to sustaining power and God’s nearness in weakness. 

• Romans 8:11 as the grounding meditation for the night 
• chronic issues that resist easy answers even with skilled physicians 
• the human body as an intricate creation with real limits on our understanding 
• the “if” of faith in Jesus Christ and the Spirit dwelling in us 
• no guarantee of healing yet a promise of sustaining power 
• letting Scripture wash over us while lying down in pain 
• a closing prayer for encouragement and faith for another day
