Romans 6:23

[23] For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (ESV)

SUMMARY

We hold the hardest truth and the best hope side by side through Romans 6:23, facing sin and death without flinching and then resting in God’s free gift of eternal life in Jesus. We pray through guilt, confession, cleansing, and the quiet relief of trusting Christ as we get ready for sleep.

• reading Romans 6:23 and naming the contrast between wages and gift 
• recognizing the built-in sense that we do not measure up 
• admitting defensiveness, cheating, lying, and manipulation as real sin 
• understanding conscience as God-given and sin as both nature and behavior 
• facing physical death as the consequence of sin 
• receiving eternal life through the person and work of Jesus Christ 
• placing trust and hope in Christ as enough to cleanse and make us right with God
