The Dalecarlian Rebellion: Sweden's 1525 Peasant Revolt

In 1525, just two years after Gustav Vasa crowned himself king of an independent Sweden, a rebellion erupted in the province of Dalarna — the very region that had launched his own uprising against Danish rule. The Dalecarlian Rebellion, or Dalupproret, was a violent protest against heavy taxes, the new Lutheran church, and the king's abandonment of traditional privileges.
