Tips From the Episode
“The antidote to perfectionism is consistency.” – Arooj Chaudhry
In this powerful and grounding conversation, Brandi Hofer sits down with psychotherapist and artist Arooj Chaudhry to explore how creativity can be a form of resistance, healing, and reconnection with self. Together, they unpack the myth of perfectionism and how it leads to burnout and creative paralysis. Arooj offers deeply rooted wisdom on shifting our mindset, embracing the “ugly stages” of the process, and showing up with consistency. Whether you’re a visual artist, writer, parent, or simply a creative spirit at heart, this episode will inspire you to honour your soul’s need to create—without apology or perfection.
Two Takeaway Tips:
Create Without Judgment: Let go of the idea that your creativity needs to look or be a certain way. As Arooj says, the “ugly stage” is where the magic often begins—keep showing up.
Use Art as a Return to Self: Feeling burnt out or disconnected? Slow down. Disconnect from the noise, and reconnect with your inner world or the natural world around you. That’s where creativity is waiting.
Arooj Chaudhry is a psychotherapist and artist passionate about redefining creativity and healing through self-expression. Her work centers on helping people reconnect to their innate creative spirit as a tool for resistance, soul reclamation, and personal transformation.

Leah’s work shows that making art isn’t just about creating something visually appealing—it’s a way to explore your emotions, process difficult feelings, and even form stronger bonds with those around you.
One of the standout ideas Leah shares is how art can be a bridge, especially when working with youth. Engaging in creative activities together allows adults and kids to build deeper connections, develop trust, and understand one another in a unique way that talking might not achieve. She also emphasizes the healing power of creativity, showing how it helps manage stress, anxiety, and emotional struggles in both children and adults.
Here are two top tips from Leah about the benefits of creativity and connection:
Healing Through Creativity: Using art as a therapeutic tool allows individuals to express themselves without the pressure of words, helping to release built-up emotions and process trauma or stress in a healthy, constructive way.
Strengthening Bonds Through Shared Art: When adults and youth create art together, it strengthens their relationship, building a bridge of understanding, trust, and empathy that goes beyond verbal communication.

In this inspiring throwback episode, we sit down with the visionary Elli Milan, founder of the Milan Institute and Author of Unemployable. Learn how Elli transformed her dreams into an ever-growing online creative institute that empowers artists worldwide. She shares her journey from an idea to building a thriving business, and how she’s challenging societal views of what it means to be an artist.
Elli also dives into two valuable tips for overcoming societal expectations and embracing your creative dreams. If you’re an artist looking to take your passion to the next level, this is one episode you won’t want to miss!
Here are two tips that Elli Milan might offer for overcoming societal expectations as a creative:
Redefine Success on Your Terms: Elli emphasizes that the traditional idea of success—whether in terms of money, fame, or status—doesn’t have to dictate your creative path. Instead, define success by what fulfills you as an artist. Focus on personal growth, expression, and creating art that resonates with you, rather than fitting into societal molds.
Own Your Identity as an Artist: Society often undervalues the role of artists, but Elli encourages creatives to embrace their identity fully. Claiming the title of "artist" with confidence allows you to break free from external expectations and open yourself to opportunities. Trust in your creative vision and surround yourself with people who celebrate that.
These tips empower artists to navigate and overcome external pressures, allowing for more freedom in creative expression!

1. Practice Self-Compassion
Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend. Acknowledge your unique beauty and remind yourself that everyone has imperfections. By embracing self-compassion, you can shift your focus from what you perceive as flaws to the qualities that make you uniquely you.
2. Celebrate Your Individuality
Confidence comes from recognizing and celebrating what makes you unique. Instead of comparing yourself to others, highlight your strengths and personal style. Wear clothes, makeup, or accessories that make you feel empowered, and remember that your confidence shines through when you embrace who you truly are.
These tips encourage self-love and self-expression, which are key to feeling confident in your own skin.

Naila is a student Homeopath, taking patients under supervision, working towards PDHom Adv. from The School of Homeopathy. Qualified Nutrition Advisor and before committing myself to study homeopathy, was running an online fashion boutique with customers from all over the world, starting from the royal family in Brunei to people in America, Australia, Europe.
Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine that was developed in the late 18th century. Human body is capable of healing itself for as long as one seeks to restore this balance. Imbalances in the body are manifested through physical symptoms (externally: rashes, eczema, boils, ulcers and internally: asthma, bowel disorders, menstrual problems etc) and psychological symptoms (such as unexplained anger, irritability, memory problems, insomnia etc). These symptoms are perceived as set, called "symptom picture". Homeopathy remedy is in the form of substances that will "help the body help itself".
About homeopathy:
1. Like Cures Like (Law of Similars): Homeopathy is based on the principle that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. This principle is known as "similia similibus curentur."
2. Minimum Dose: Homeopathic remedies are prepared through a process of dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking). The more diluted the substance, the more potent it is believed to be. The goal is to use the minimum dose necessary to stimulate the body's vital force to restore balance.
3. Individualized Treatment: Homeopathic treatment is highly individualized. Practitioners consider not only the specific symptoms of the disease but also the overall physical, mental, and emotional state of the patient.
4. Holistic Approach: Homeopathy views health as a state of balance and harmony within the body. It aims to treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease. Practitioners believe that by restoring balance to the vital force, the body can overcome illness.
Naila's passion has always been to help people get better, this lead her pursuing a career in homeopathy: instagram https://www.instagram.com/the.homeo.path.with.naila/ email: approachnaila@gmail.com
It's important to note that while some people report positive experiences with homeopathy, the scientific community generally views its principles homeopathic treatments is a subject of ongoing debate and research. The fear of failure often holds us back from life's greatest joys. The avoidance, the hesitation to start, can be paralyzing. However, it's crucial to recognize that your brain learns and evolves through failure—each setback is an opportunity for adjustment, learning, and growth, paving the way for the next chapter of your life.
Much like the changing seasons, growth can be uncomfortable and at times overwhelming, but it is an indispensable part of becoming the person you are meant to be. The pain of these growing seasons shapes and molds you, creating new pathways and preparing you for the challenges ahead.
It's a reminder that asking for what you want in life and finding a way to make it work is a journey worth taking. In the grand scheme, you'll never regret striving for what your heart desires.
As Wayne Gretzky wisely said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Embrace the process, the failures, and the uncertainties, for they are the building block toward a more fulfilled and authentic you.

Embrace 'Be Brave' Days! The days where you feel like the sun is shining out your ass (you know what I'm talking about). Seize the reins, venture forth, ask for what you desire—know that it may return to you in unexpected, yet beautifully surprising ways.
Be open to the unanticipated, for often, it unfolds in ways even better than you could have imagined! The worst response you can receive is a 'no.' However, behind every 'no' lies an opportunity for growth, learning, and resilience.
Embrace the possibility of rejection, for it can lead to unexpected doors opening and new paths unfolding before you.
Let's talk about you! Close your eyes and think about three things you are going to ask for on your next “Be Brave Day”.

“The belief that taking time off will cause your entire life to collapse is not only unhealthy, but also arrogant (the world will go on if you stop working, you see). If you don’t take time off, your body will eventually put its foot down and make you sick. Bodies do it all the time. Stress is a leading cause of cancer, heart attacks, liver failure, stupid accidents, grouchiness, and suddenly not being able to breathe.”– Jen Sincero. Beyond the evident health benefits, allocating time for pursuits that ignite your passion should stand as a priority.
After all, what's the purpose of journeying through life without these sparks of inspiration? Imagine reaching the ripe age of eighty-five, only to realize you 'never quite found the time' to relish in your own joys. What occupied your hours that trumped this? This isn't an indulgence exclusive to those wealthier, smarter, or less encumbered than you. It's a privilege that awaits those who take the initiative to carve it out—a choice to craft a life brimming with enjoyment. In my belief, you should revel in what you do and feel a genuine sense of contentment in your pursuits, for they will occupy the majority of your lifetime in a series of defining moments.
Let's talk about you! Close your eyes and think about three things you are grateful for in your life at this very moment.

"Everything comes with a little bit of suck." – Brandi
A little bit of suck…No matter what path I decide to take in my career, every profession comes along with a bit (or a lot) of suck. You really have to decide what job you don’t mind doing the unenjoyable parts of. Musicians need to perform at night when the average person likes to make dinner and wind down from their day. But they are passionate about creating through sound and that is their compromise. But there are parts of their industry, like production or song writing, that they could do alternatively if they didn’t like the evening performances. This isn’t cut-and-dried for any industry, not so black-and-white—you can find a little wiggle room. It is about learning to embrace the suck as long as you get to do what you love.
Let's talk about you!
What is your current employment situation?
Would you like to be there? If not, how is it applicable to what you would like out of life?
What are some things holding you back?
Where would you like to be in a year?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“When you tap into the idea that your ability to create is infinite, your whole life will change” – Brandi
Seriously! When you finally see that if you can imagine something and you find a way to make it happen, your life becomes a matter of choice. What projects you choose to do, where you choose to do them, and who you choose to do them with. So really it is a question of impact and what kind of person do you want to be… Our chat this week with creative Kehan Fu has us inspired. When you have the ability to create whatever it is you set your mind to, how can you use your gift to better your community, or even the world?
How do you get there, what kinds of people do you need to connect with, and how do you connect to your community, how do you connect to your "something more".
Make some notes about all these points. For example, I am going to ask for that opportunity I have been thinking about for a while, I am going to do my research, be brave, and my first move would be to…__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you loved this segment we snagged it from our new book which you can order on amazon and the free audio book code comes inside! Trust this path that you are on it is leading you to your everyday ordinary as extraordinary.
Only YOU have the power to control this very moment of this very day. And it starts with a little of this!
Here is what we are going to work on to shift that perspective and be in this moment of your life:
· Be more present.
· Make more time for friends and loved ones.
· Do more outdoor activities.
· Do more activities that feed your soul and bring you joy.
· Have more grace for yourself and others.
· Be a better listener.
· Be smarter by reading.
· Be more successful at following your heart.
· Practice is fun and practice makes better.
· Practice self-care.
· Practice having a home filled with beautiful memories and things that make you think of those beautiful memories, the memories that bloom from the trials and tribulations of your daily life.
Make some notes about all these points. For example, to be more present I have allotted time to be on my phone and allotted time for one-on-one with my children.

It's the time of year in Canada when the trees turn golden and shades of auburn, sitting against the bright blue sky in glowing contrast, a wonder to behold. The air is chilled with an ever distinct smell that takes you back to laying the fallen leaves as a child, joyous memories of laying while the branches sway above you in the breeze and the lady bugs hide amongst the leaves. The time of year when the trees are shedding something that once were a necessity of life to something the need to let go of in order to survive, ready for the next season, to bud, to be fresh, stronger, ever more brilliant than before.

I hadn't heard of intuitive eating. Kiki Athens reached out to us right before her move to Greece. She wanted to chat about how she helps her clients as well as her journey into the career of becoming an intuitive eating coach.
It sure made me think about North American restrictive diet culture a lot. Kiki speaks about healing relationships with food. It has restructured my idea of why we have to eat at certain times of the day because that is how it was done. What about eating for the joy of it? What about eating because we are hungry or craving it? Hmmmm....
Very interesting, it's been over a month since we chatted with Kiki and I have been a lot more conscious about how, when, and why I am eating. I have also been more aware of the language I use with my children when we eat. If they say they are full, that is okay, just because it's dinner doesn't mean they HAVE to eat it all.
I never want to tell you how to live your life. Food is such a big part of our lives. I can only hope you can view it as an extraordinarily wonderful part of your everyday ordinary. A gift. A joy.

Some challenging seasons are meant to prepare you, strengthen you for what's to come.
How to be grateful in truly challenging seasons of life? This is what I wrote in the challenging season of losing my mother and having my first son in a matter of months: "Yet somehow, unexpectedly, through the throes of grief, I found strength. Strength for my own newborn baby when I held him in my arms, Gus. I had been presented with the highest form of gift. That I will hold in my own hands the small joys, the small moments, the moments that add up to a lifetime of love. My mother could never be replaced, but she lived on through me, and she will live on through my children. My hands have purpose now, just as my mother’s did, just as her mother’s did and hers before that." I wouldn't be the strong driven woman that I am today without walking through that grief. What a gift every moment is now.
Are you living up to your fullest potential right now? Is there something challenging going on with you? How could the future you see this as a building block to the foundation, the foundation that needs to be strong before you add more building blocks on top?
What is the best version of you? What does that person look like? How do they feel? Take a minute a write right down. How are you slowing down in a day? Try to fit in 3 conscious moments where you take pause and take in how great you really have it! (this helps, trust me, even through the darkest times)

This book is honest, authentic, raw, and vulnerable. It will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. This book will move you, motivate you, and give you the strength to greet each day with passion and love.
You may not look around and see what you want to see, or be present in what is happening to you right now. If that is so, through appreciation for where you are, who you are, where you came from, what you’ve already done: through appreciation and acceptance of those life lessons, the building blocks and foundations of what you can become, know they were all for a reason.
"Know that every moment you live is a worthy moment, just as you are; your everyday life is extraordinary, just as you are equally extraordinary. You are abundantly beautiful, and you should share every part of your stunning self with the world."

Some of the littlest taught me the most, some of the apparent biggest were really insignificant – Emily Carr
The day before my vacation I was packing in a haste that I tend to move in – with 3 boys keeping me in a constant state of scurry a book on my closet shelf had appeared – almost out of nowhere. Emily Carr’s “This and That” Not really paying it much attention I zipped it in to the outside compartment of my suitcase. For those of you who heard of Emily Carr she is an accomplished Canadian creative. I finally arrive on the sunny stone laid patio of my vacation just outside of Victoria. I open my book and the irony of it all hits me. I am reading this little piece of Emily Carr’s life in the place where she resided. Not at all surprised, shit like this happens on a good ol’ regular (once you regard the universe as your playmate, nothing at all seems a mere coincidence anymore). Picking up this book before I left like it was meant for me. Her (my mother, as it was her book, I could hear her laughter as I read it) last advice for me this: you are in charge of your own destiny, and trust in the rest. Admittedly, I was downright ready for this vacation but seemed unable to let go of the hustle and bustle of attempting to balance motherhood and a creative career. Blinded constantly by this woulds, coulds and shoulds and not able to see what was hitting me right in my steal plated noggin. Until my final days, my mind met up with my body again. And everything came back into focus, allowing me to see through my rose coloured glasses once more. On my morning run on the 7th day I stopped to notice the berry bushes (that I hadn’t noticed the first few times) they were ripe with blackberries. I slowed to a walk, every few feet plucking more fruit with each step. Relishing in the sweet treats, that if you chose the right on was sweet and juicy and tasted laced with vanilla. But if I wasn’t paying attention I would get barbed by the jacked barbs on the branches. Rewarded when paying close attention to a moment: the sweet vanilla bursting in your mouth when you stop, slow down and pay attention - pluck a good one it comes off – easily, as if that was the way that life was supposed to be and everything is right in the world. If we slow down to breath, take in what is right in front of us, not behind, not in the future (both beyond our control) right here, right how, the this’ and that’s.
If we slow down to breath, take in what is right in front of us, not behind, not in the future (both beyond our control) right here, right how, the this’ and that’s.
Knowing that all the bits and pieces of a day, the most insignificant and Emily points out, are the most extraordinary.

“Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much. You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about the pathway to the future. But all there will ever be is what’s happening here in the decisions we make in this moment, which are based in either love or fear.”– Jim Carrey
To be perfectly honest I was scared to dip my toes into our Mural Project at first. I mean there were some major factors like: Can I paint a mural that big and pull off the faces? How will people react to the subject matter. Will they embrace it, or fight against it? All real fears. But I will tell you what changed everything, the people I met and the stories I heard. That is what made moving forward one thousand percent worth it! Our Join Hands and Choose Love in Truth and Reconciliation Project in Partnership with Lloydminster Region Health Foundation and Yellow Finch Images has been the honour of my life. From start to finish it was pure magic, and that is the only way to describe it. Because every time I think about it, tears of joy well up in my eyes.

Firefighter Maverick Hann is here to chat! Raw and real, Maverick shares his story, trauma and how the only way for him was through. This is one you won't want to miss!
In order to care for others you need to care for yourself… We all know that everyone shits in some kind of toilet or shit pile in the morning, at some point or another, but all we see is someone’s perfectly clean home, their fancy pasta dish on their designer countertop, posing with their cool couch in their trendy outfit with their new lips, and we think Why isn’t my life THAT perfect? Why do I have pores and pimples, unmade beds, and non-matching curtains? What is wrong with me?
Let me tell you, everyone has a boatload of issues: their dad sucked, they were bankrupt last year, they haven’t spoken to their sister in years, they haven’t made love to their partner in months, they have low self-esteem, they work so much they never get to see their kids, and so on and so forth. Not one person is not drowning in the depths of their being. Let’s cut the bullshit and stop pursuing and browsing the highlight reels of other people’s lives, stop putting them on this unattainable pedestal, and live our own lives. That starts with taking care of you first. Putting your mind and health top priority! When you start thriving and your foundation is solid then you can start to hold more, building onto it, day by day, brick by brick! And here is where you can begin! You can do this! Say it with me: "I can Effing do this!"
I am going to help you out here:
If you HAVE to be where you are, do it well, and find the fun. Shift from thinking: "I have to" to "I get to"
Get dressed. Play the part. Embrace the SUCK. People and opportunities will gravitate toward your energy; it may not happen tomorrow, but it will happen for you one day soon. Visualize it, write it down, make a vision board, create, and say your mantra.
Do whatever you can, when you can, to the very best of your ability. view ever
experience as a stepping stone, a building block, preparing you for the larger things that are coming to you in this life
Use whatever situation you are currently into get to where you want to be. You have choices and the ability to do so.
You will turn your “have-to” into “I get to,” and attract the life you’ve envisioned for yourself. All will come when you shift your mindset. If you adapt the mentality of, I get to, people will gravitate toward your energy; it will flow around you, and you can lead others down the same path with your positive example and ability to move forward, adapt, and create the beautiful journey you’ve set out for yourself.
Say what you want, shout it out loud, or at least just say it out loud, every day—say it, sing it, write it, rap it. You do you; just let the universe know. Tell people your plans, because you are more likely to do something and follow through if everyone around you knows and will hold you accountable.
If you see it, it can become real!! You have that power.

Seeing others as human and holding space for them… what does that look like? Join us this week with Laura Rutherford creative and Mother of 7. This was a beautiful conversation about stripping it all away and being human and being okay and what lessons we can learn from our children. I don't know about you but I sure as shit have learned some patience. I also learned that each end every person (my children included) are individuals who has gone through something unique, and they in turn process that experience in a very different way.
The more we hold space for people and let go of what we think they should be or who we want them to be, it is a very freeing experience for both parties. I think though… that it all starts with accepting ourselves first. Loving who we are, all our parts. I think that is being free. Loving yourself. That is free. What are some ways you show yourself love: Feel free to share them with me or write them down to yourself.

Sarah gets so vulnerable and transparent in this episode and opens up about mental health and gives advice from experience. It is one you won't want to miss! Sleep plays such a role in mental health and well being and it is something that cannot be ignored. When you're not getting adequate rest your body is in constant flight or flight mode (that goes for you and your littles).
If you’re tired learn to rest not quit - Banksy
Today was a cry in the car day. I’ve been surrounded by littles far too much, Finn pooped his pants at a friends (I’m not mad at all that just happens) but it was still shitty 😉 It all feels heavy. Heavier than it used to. I find myself in contact searching for a spark ⚡️ to fill the anxieties that we are all recovering from from the last few years.
And I realize that it’s when I get knocked out of routine that it feels the most chaotic. Here are some tips from my book 📕 to bring you (and me) back down to earth:
Are you tired or hungry or mentally drained?
Get to bed, grab a snack or go for a walk.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. Self care is number one. You’ve got this. Most importantly, remember: there can be no light without the dark, and by only accepting that they both live within you can you move forward. This is not about cutting anything out or self-deprecation. It is about finding balance, finding what works for you, sticking with it consistently, and developing healthy habits.
Whatever your pain, whatever your journey, there are people who will help you. Places where you can find support. There is light in your dark. Love yourself.
My Aunt who was in social work for 26 years (now retired) shared with me a really great way to cope when the world feels too heavy for you:
She calls it the 3 columns of conversation that will bring you back down to earth:
What are you worried about?
What is working well?
And what are your next steps?

Our 5 tips on: How to thrive as a Portrait Artist
1. Show up everyday in all your forms. Get into a daily routine of showing up for your practice. It will become a habit and your creative energy will come to expect it. When you show up daily for your practice you will continue to improve in your field.
2. Have good source material. It is so important to have a subject matter that means something to you. You will be able to connect to the work and so will your collector. There is something magical about our creativity, and that shows up in every aspect of our artwork.
3. Use good reference material. It all starts with the photograph. A good photo makes a good painting or drawing.
4. Capture your artwork to the highest level and capture yourself creating. If you aren’t familiar in this area and you can’t afford to hire a photographer try trading your services.
5.Connect to a creative community. These will be your soul mates and you will rise together!
Find ways to share your work: through social media, galleries or public spaces, ask for opportunities the worst anyone can say is “no”. Almost every opportunity I’ve had came because I asked for it. Questions!? We are happy to chat anytime! Xo

"The thing is, that bar will always move, you'll never hit it. The bar just goes higher and you keep going!" says Mike! "You keep chasing the finish line".
It's not end game we are chasing, the end game in life is death. See your everyday ordinary as extraordinary, and know that the little things add up to all the big things. We are doing things that make us happy, being creative, striving for more, showing up every day in all your forms.
The trick to success I think would have to be opening up yourself to the idea that you can't do this alone. If there is anything I've learned is that there is power and meaning in community. Go beyond yourself, overcome those fears, connect with others. Then and only then can you open yourself up to the possibility of things going above and beyond what you ever imagined. Your friends and mentors will see things in you that you cannot see in yourself. People rise together.
Find your community, surround yourself with the people who lift you up! Positively share your most beautiful self with the world!

"Power comes from the passage of time and wisdom comes from failure" - Jann Arden
Honestly, there are so many gems to take away from this conversation with Jann. I guess I should just start from the beginning (short version). I drew Jann's face and tweeted her about it when my mom was in palliative care in 2014. She somehow someway saw the tweet and insisted on buying the piece from me and picking it up when she was to perform in Lloydminster (my home town) She referred to it in the podcast as a back alley exchange! I had actually been working at our local performance venue Vic Juba Community Theatre. I cooked Jann and her crew dinner and gave her the beautiful portrait I had created. The whole encounter seemed magical and like other things were at play.
No surprise many years later when I reached out to Jann to pop on the pod she was happy to oblige. I told her about the work we are taking on in our community and she was supportive and kind.
It takes a long time to become a person, that's what Jann said. She is right, it does take a long time to become not just a person, but the person you want to be a strive to be. The person who looks in the mirror and says I love you, I love what you've done, and I love who you have become. And THAT takes work, and time, and maturity to step into that person. It can be empowering and beautiful. Jann finished this podcast saying she has made a career from being herself. Can't we all take some of that advice and just navigate life in our truest form, isn't that something we can ask of this life? I think so. Be true, you are beautiful and strong and capable of whatever it is you set your mind to! You Krone!! You have to read Jann's most recent book to know that Krone is the highest calling and something you should be proud of or hope to be one day!
Jann emailed me after our episode and here is what it said: "You are a crone. I am here for you"

We are installing interactive mural for the community is to be painted on the north side of the Prairie North Plaza as part of Truth and Reconciliation. To celebrate kindness, love, and indigenous culture in our community and surrounding area and serve at a landmark location as a pillar of symbolism and hope. In partnership with Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Brandi Hofer Studios, Yellow Finch Images, Home Hardware Lloydminster and Heart of Treaty 6 Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
North, as a symbolic gesture, paying homage to our Indigenous community. Interactive in the way: of placing hands as a community at the end of the ceremony and vowing to choose love and honour and accept one another. Interactive meaning: having an area designated for everyone to trace their hands on the mural and a moment where the public can connect. This portion of the mural will provide inclusivity of ALL nationalities, diversity groups, minorities and in essence the very basis of equality. Prior to this moment at the onset of the unveiling we will invite Indigenous elders to bless the new mural in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. This is a necessary component to the project as we continue to “Choose Love”.

What does it take to be a Woman?
Tune in this week as we sit down with Professional Editor Stephanie Carbajal about transitioning from a full-time position to freelance. Stephanie coaches us on how to say “no” in a professional manner. And How letting go of the 9-5 it allows us more freedom and power in the season of motherhood.
What does it take to be a woman? Sometimes… I don’t want to think about it. Because everything that is included in being a woman is, well... everything all at once (yes, that is a movie title 😉).
I wander around my house, mulling about. Staring at the piles of toys scattered in each section of my home, ignoring the pull to gather it all up and put it away. Grabbing a half eaten muffin off the counter and shoving it in my mouth. Chewing in contemplation – that not only one but all 3 of my children had a full out meltdown before getting out the door at 8:15 this morning.
Here she is. Labelled as “Mother” and “Wife”. Knowing what she “should” do. Tame the beasts. The ringleader to a never ending circus. Where the days amalgamate together, the days where she doesn’t know if she will be shovelling elephant shit, be attacked by the bear or having her hands almost taken off by the lion. The audience yells at her to: clean her home, make 3 delicious meals a day, have a career, teach these children, wear the perfect hair, have a round yet fit physique, have ravenous perfect sex with her partner, attend all the things, take the kids to their countless events, wave and smile like everything is always OKAY. It’s not. Not always. There are days where she can meet these unmaintainable expectations.
I blink my eyes coming back to my kitchen.
Today is not that day.
I chew on my muffin. Look down at my leggings with the holes and the paint, the leggings I’ve worn since the birth of my first child, because nothing beats cotton. I throw my hood over the my head of my oversized sweater, loving the comfort that it gives me. I slip on my moccasins and walk over the crumbs. Vacuuming seems like sweeping sand at the beach. I don’t want to do it. All of it. Maybe tomorrow.
Maybe my next book should be titled: “I’m so fucking tired”.

The long lost episode!! I dug this out of the archives, and you would not believe what Shaun and I have been up to since our chat from over a year ago!! Proof that dreams can become a reality, and in a relatively short period of time!!
“The greatest gift you can give yourself is to find something that you are naturally adept at. And find out a way to make a living at it. Because if you do that, every day will be a play day. You’re never battling upstream. You love what you do. And if you love what you do, why do you want to stop doing it?”
– Judith Susan Blum (most of you know her as Judge Judy)
Shaun Newman is a pure example of this quote through and through. In the throws and midst of the busiest time in his life he decided to really go for it! I can relate to this journey as a multifaceted creative and parent to 3 myself, in fact this was the most interrupted episode of all time (don't worry I cut most of it out). We have both gone on to expand on our creative journeys and have found purpose and found support in our community! There is room for us all to thrive and when we connect and collaborate it can be a powerful thing!
Stay tuned for our upcoming episode in March with SNP where I announce a few BIG projects!

When we get caught in the rigamarole of all the small things, we can sometimes forget what a miracle it takes for us to be here every day. There is nothing more extraordinary than the simple fact that we are alive and will one day cease to exist. It is a delicate balance in which we hang on the edge. We forget to be kind to ourselves, we forget that it is where this all begins, self acceptance. Believing in yourself, and believing that the world after all does have your back and you were meant to be here.
Because there is magic floating all around you in bits and pieces. All you have to do is reach beyond fears, beyond what you ever imagined for yourself, beyond everything you know, grasp it in your hand and then and only then will you see your everyday ordinary life as extraordinary.

What the heck is an Enneagram anyway? That was our exact thought! Find out where you fit in this weeks episode!
Anna combines combining her Life- and Enneagram coaching with Interior design to help people create a home where they thrive and space that supports them to "come home" to who they truly are.
Which I totally love! I know I feel better when I've tackled my Mount Everest of laundry. Or when I have cleaned and set up a little space that is just for me in my home. What is funny is every time I create or clean up a space for alone time my kids follow me, they feel it too. Order amongst the chaos of a day, a place where the beat of our hearts quiets to a slow hum, lifting up our hopes and dreams with every thump, thump, thump.
Is there a space that needs a little TLC in your life?
Reach out anytime! All the love my friend!

That is a beautiful power, a power that can heal our world.
I recall laying in the foetal position on the shag carpet of our living room. Clutching my swollen, pregnant belly and weeping; the baby would not stop stirring. How could this baby deal with the intense amount of emotion and grief? I felt like I could never recover from this intense loss. A thread tethered and severed, no longer holding me to my mother.
Yet somehow, unexpectedly, through the throes of grief, I found strength. Strength for my own newborn baby. My mother could never be replaced, but she lived on through me, and she will live on through my children.
My hands have purpose now, just as my mother’s did, just as her mother’s did and hers before that. My hands gently stroke the soft head of my last baby, as I sing him a quiet lullaby and whisper the secret I reserve only for them—that every parent knows—there is nothing in this world you could ever love more.
Our love, our compassion for our children is a power capable of saving humanity; women full of compassion and love and empathy, we are the key. Women are the salvation for the world. I know it in my heart.
“We are here to fully introduce ourselves, to impose ourselves and ideas and thoughts and dreams onto the world, leaving it changed forever by who we are and what we bring forth from our depths. So we cannot contort ourselves to fit into the visible order. We must unleash ourselves and watch the world reorder itself in front of our eyes.”
– Glennon Doyle

“Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much. You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about the pathway to the future. But all there will ever be is what’s happening here in the decisions we make in this moment, which are based in either love or fear.”

Dive in. Sometimes you just have to! It is scary, maybe even unimaginable. But what if you didn't and lived your life thinking what if? What can you live with and what can you live without? THAT is what you have to ask yourself.
You have the capabilities and the strength to do whatever it is that gets you to haul your hiney out of bed each morning! And don't just do it, do it with fucking bells on!

When we lift one another we all rise!
Terra and Kelly are honest about the evolution of their 13 years in building the Inspiring Women's Conference! We have grown a creative community—out of the vast, stretching prairies, we have found one another. Inspiring women and building one another up and making extraordinary things happen!
Where ever you are finding your right community is an essential part of thriving.
We work together as a community, not limited by where we live, but empowered by it. Our community supports each other and takes pride in what we create together. Every new beginning is an opportunity. Every blank wall, every street corner is a place where I can express myself through my creativity and beautify my city. My community has given back friendships and support and we know you will find yours!
Never make assumptions and never place limitations on yourself or others. Look around. Be grateful. Never discount what you have right in front of you. One day what you have will smack you in the face with the ugly reminder that the only thing that is constant in this world is time, and what you had is gone. Open your eyes and ears to the opportunities knocking at your door right now. Does anything come to mind?

Get inspired with our Weekend Inspiration Newsletter
Can a daily habit change your life!? Our answer is....
HECK YA it can!
Be inspired by finding YOUR productive routine!
Actively search for opportunities for inspiration: listen to music, make playlists, find a podcast of interest to you, read books—or listen to books if you are like my husband. My stubborn husband (who argues that I am the more stubborn one—to be fair, I am), who totes around the same two books that sit on his night shelf, and has been guilty of hauling those same books on every vacation he has been on for the last ten years, because surely he will learn to love reading magically, out of nowhere, on this upcoming vacation, only to haul the same two books home, taking up that precious space in his carryon. You need to find something YOU will STICK TO, and you need to find a routine that will work for you.
Read or listen to books if that’s what you’re into; if not, find the thing that gets your heart pumping. It can motivate you on the most tired and frustrating days and take you out of any funk. The funny thing is that people think that magic pops up out of nowhere, and that artists are filled with it, and magically they create masterpieces with all of their magic sparks. Kind of . . . but not really! All day I open my eyes to the beauty of the world all around me. I pause and hold space for it to fill me up. It is a routine of mental work and dedication to my passion.
My creativity is triggered like clockwork almost every night I hit the studio, pretty much no matter what, same time, and everything that has been filling me up can be channelled. Why does it work out for me, you ask? Because for years I have been consistently doing this same routine: kids to bed, make a tea, bring it down to my studio, headphones, music, work, create, feed my soul, and—most of the time—MAGIC! The funny thing about this is if I am out doing something at night other than being in my studio, around 8 p.m. I start hearing and humming my favourite songs. It is so amazing that because I have habitually started this routine for my practice now my body and mind expects it, longs to create, yearns for magic to flow out of my veins and onto the canvas or into the written word.
I can guarantee that if you introduce a regular and positive routine into your life your body and mind will come to expect and appreciate it.
Visualize or write something you’d love to incorporate into your every day and help your creative routine and make it a habit.

Or just all my secrets rolled into one tutorial!! BAHAHA! These drawing videos all so fun to make, if you can see this on video here, if not it's also available on YouTube.
Secret 1:
A good photograph is the root to any painting! Find the magic in the photo first! Make friends with photographers and trade, that is our BIG tip! When creatives support one another extraordinary things can happen!
Secret 2:
Don't believe in the stereotype of artists can only make a living selling art. Some of the most successful creatives I know are multifaceted. Set up multiple income streams to depend on one to save from burnout!
Secret 3:
You have to say the same thing multiple times in different ways for anyone to notice. 8 times is how you send the same message to your clientel and audience. Get inventive and creative how you can say the same thing over an over without repetition!
EXAMPLE:
Secret 4:
Self care. To best take care of others you must take care of yourself. Make time for you. Your creativity will flow when you are rested!

You can set goals, you can write down intentions, and you can mediate and manifest what you would like out of this life! Then each and every day find a way to fit it in. Start a routine. Be realistic with it. Because if you are realistic you are more likely to stick to it.
And if you show up for yourself in ALL the ways daily, that can add up to a lifetime of reaching your full potential. Have patience my friend everything is coming your way in time. The coolest part is it will add up in bigger and better ways than you ever expected!
Grab a pen and write it out, or sketch it out OR write it out! Sit with yourself. Find the time and space, sit with yourself, and think about purpose, find it, feel it, see it, and accept what you are presented with. A great way to connect with yourself is through creativity!!

Do one for you!
All day, all week, all month, all year, our whole lives in fact we do these things that we are expected to do. We go to school, more school, we go to work. What happens when you do one for you? What happens when you choose that now is the time in your life for you to pivot? To take the plunge! Let the fear shake off of you like leaves shedding from its branches on a golden fall day! When do you decide that you will do one for you?
Artist Camille Myles did just that one for her! In this episode she talks about shifting gears in her life and making the whole art thing work! Tune in to find out how she found a way to make it work through connections and community.
The most effective way to access your intuition for what to do next is through quiet meditation, or making space for thought and reflection. Try it on a walk, try it in a quiet room, try it sitting in your car. The crazy thing is that, this is always here for you to access anytime and any place you like.

Connecting back to yourself. A time to quietly tune out the world. And to come back to what is true for you.
This year I have a word I am going to work with purpose. What is my purpose? Why am I doing what I am doing? Why have I done what I have done?
There are areas of everyone's life when the external world impacts them in a tidal wave of sorts and they have to find the strength to fight against the tide or float with it to live. There is never a point where you are going to make it into calm waters and just sit there forever. Acceptance of where you’ve been and what it takes to be who you are in your heart and acknowledging that life is a balance of all of the things. Things that can expand who you are as a human being. Finding your fire, growing, evolving, learning and knowing that all the tools are inside you.
Grab a pen and write it out, or sketch it out!
Purpose. In the grand scheme of things, without feeling overwhelmed, sit with yourself. Find the time and space, sit with yourself, and think about purpose, find it, feel it, see it, and accept what you are presented with.

This week we interviewed Michelle Sayers founder and CEO of Beauty from Bee’s.
Michelle speaks of her why, why she felt the need to create a natural line of products. And guess what?! It all started with the power of becoming a mother. She realized that there were no products that she felt safe enough to use on her baby. Then she decided to make her own, then everyone wanted to purchase some, then she would sell out, then she was a scaled business by 2400% 4 years later! Michelle avidly speaks about the overwhelming amount of toxins our bodies have to handle on a daily basis. Don’t get overwhelmed, she doesn’t want you to overhaul your whole life or anything, she just wants to inspire you to open your eyes. I have been testing her products and am totally in love!
If you take care of yourself first, everything else will just fall into place
This week I shared one of my biggest insecurities, my skin, I have always struggled with it. I didn’t want to share it, I always hide it, I always carry shame about it. Until a close friend suggested that I share that part of myself because it could help others, she told me I was ready. And gosh darn-it she was right, yet again! I showed up naked, no makeup and no filter reading from my book online.
I’ve had babies, my body has changed, my skin has changed, I’ve changed. I would never dream of taking any of that back. I feel more myself in my 30’s than I did in my 20’s, and dammit I look forward to my 40’s and 50’s and beyond. Because, damn this just keeps getting better!
What if you just say fuck it?! And flip your perspective upside down?
For example: my midsection has not been the same since I’ve had all my babies. My belly is a soft landing pad for small heads, and tiny hearts to lay on. My stretch marks are the evidence of the miracle of life that I brought into the world. My tired eyes are from the strength I have each day I carry forward shaping humans into people who will make this world a better place.
What about you!? Hit reply and tell us your story!

Discovering Your Creativity
This week on the podcast and community we featured artist Jenna Deibel. Little did I know that she has known me for quite some time! You're going to love this candid and raw episode on the struggles and joys of motherhood and creativity!
This may be hidden beneath many layers of yourself and experiences that made you who you are. But let me ask you this: Do you feel like the person you were meant to be is who you are today? Unfortunately, creativity and the arts are discounted. They are not considered careers. They are not considered relevant. The most beautiful parts of ourselves were discounted, how messed up is that?
I want to see the day when a child shares with me that they want to be an artist just like me and not see their parents face cringe. Is there something terribly wrong with how I am living my life? Do I make this look hard or something? Because it’s easy, not easy in the way of everything just comes my way. But easy in the way that this is how I view the world, this is how my brain works, this is how I thrive. Don’t you want to thrive? Don’t you want to see your children thrive? Not only thrive but BE HAPPY! We all deserve to be happy. I am deserving of that and so are you. It is easier because it is worth it, every moment I am doing this I know it’s where I am meant to be, and I am totally obsessed with making it work! I was told by everyone that I could not write. My whole life, and up until about 5 years ago I believed them. After a long while of finding confidence in myself, and a lot of practice here I am writing to you and publishing my very first book, if I can do it SO CAN YOU!
What is it that you are totally obsessed with? What is it that makes you pull yourself out of your bed in the morning, what is it that makes you drag your tired ass across the finish line? Because that is your answer! And guess what, you can do more of it!
List 3 ways you can incorporate more of the “thing” you love into your being.
The more you integrate it into your life the more it will expand. Before you know it, it will be just something you DO!

Drop Stereotypes & Limiting Beliefs Like They're Hot & Diversify Your Income Already! Join us in the studio with Jen Dwyer as we chat about stereotypes and limiting beliefs and how they no longer serve us!
As most of you know already I have been a stay at home parent slash studio artist for the past decade! In that decade and season in my life I have learned a lot, probably in the hardest way, but learned it nonetheless!
Limiting Beliefs and Stereotypes Examples
Don’t even have the audacity to become an educator, how dare you!? Looking like a boob online, I don’t think so! Well after I decided to shake off the stereotype, flip my mindset and my business on its rear end! I can proudly state that I have increased my sales and annual income by 394%! Friend! Here is your steaming hot cup of weekend inspiration! This week we sat down with veteran Jodi Miller, a former Aerospace Engineer and Professional Artist from Saskatchewan. You can see how both coincided in her life from the living landscapes and skylines in her work. Her story is an interesting one no doubt! How does one go from army to artist?
Jodi and I connected on so many levels and you will thoroughly enjoy this conversation between two new friends. Grab a tea or coffee and sit down with us for some weekend inspiration!
How do we survive living beyond fear?
Life can be scary, life IS scary. But instead of being caught up in the fear. Being caught up, and having the fear turn into something worse like hatred or blame. The world is hard, the last thing we need is to be hard on ourselves or our loved ones.
So what can we do in the face of the impossible? We can become inspired, we turn to our creativity and we face it head on. Focus on creativity and your ability to adapt, focus on the hope and the desire to imagine something that is beyond yourself, and beyond the fear.
What gets us through the day? What gets us through life? How do we survive? We survive for the beauty in the world, the beauty that IS created, created by you – it is created by us and the way in which we choose to live and move forward each and every day.
We live for our passion and our love.

The Art Of Letting Go
Remember when learning something new felt so hard? Think back, think back to learning to tie your shoes or learning to ride a bike for the very first time. They seemed so impossible, but other people could do it, why couldn’t you?! SO FRUSTRATING! It took so much time, trials, and confusion to get it right. But once you did everything just clicked. Oh the freedom, oh the independence, the power in nailing something you’ve been working so hard on! Those things no longer held a world of frustration for you. The frustration fell away, the memory of how hard they were, fell away. Now tying your shoes is just something you do, now riding a bike is another skill you have and you can hop right back on any time you choose. Taking comfort in the fact that you have already mastered riding a bike!
So why when it comes to making money do we have all these roadblocks getting in our way? We see other people do it, we want to do it, we know how to do it, then why the eff am I not rolling in it?

Here is your fresh steaming cup of Weekend Inspiration - Where do you see yourself and how will you get there?
This week we sat down with Artist, Creative Healer and Mentor Juliana Naufel who I just had the pleasure of meeting in NYC. Did she manifest it or did I, I am not sure, but I know that we will cross paths again one day soon!
Juliana Naufel is a Brazilian-based artist who uses affection as her primary subject. Her artworks are strongly influenced by the healing aspect of embroidering photographs as a way of making amends with the past. Naufel earned her MA Degree in Art Therapy from Universidade Cândido Mendes and her BA in Visual Arts from São Paulo’s State University and is represented by PxP Contemporary and Showfields.
Manifesting your dreams! For some reason when I would see all these women standing at art fairs representing their, brand, artwork, or magazine, I just thought one day I will be standing with them. It wasn't jealousy is was just something I would do, one day at least. I wasn't sure when, I didn't put it on a vision board, or focus on it at all. I just saw myself there, I cannot explain fully how it happened but I am pretty sure I manifested it! If you would of pulled me to the side 3 years ago and told me that all I had to do was make an unwavering decision that I was capable and worthy of accomplishing anything I set my mind to I would not have believed you. A decision? And all I have to do is see it happening, and trust that it will come to me? No friggin way!
Years later, and a whole lotta living it up in the self help world of podcasts, books, and audiobooks. There I was on the streets of New York with a hankering for italian, saying it out loud to my manifesting boss of a friend, and us walking forward to find the Italian Market just around the corner. I mean I have a lot of these stories that are more shocking than access to a pizza in NYC. Like really BIG life changing things that I could not just explain. It took a lot longer than I thought, and definitely in a way that I was't expecting but it all happened! IT ALL HAPPENED! How did I do it you ask? Well friend, I believed I could, I didn't know exactly how I would, but I trusted that something or someone had my back and community.COMMUNITY, the big one! Really, really, really big, whether you want to start writing a book, make trolls sculptures out of wood, or climb a mountain you can find people who are doing it or have done it! They won't have done it in the same way you're going to, but I am sure they could offer up some guidance, friendship and support!
Where do you see yourself and how will you get there:
What are some goals or visions you have for yourself?
In a week:
A Month:
A year:
2 years:
5 years
10 years:
Find your community and a coach or mentor, or people as Juliana explains it as: "meeting your vibrational energy", whatever that looks like for you. Don't force it, just imagine what they would be and it will come to you when you are ready, so be open and ready!
Visualize and meditate on these as much as possible, because all I know is this shit works! It worked for me and it can work for you too!

In this episode we speak with best selling author Jeff Hilderman about pivotal moments in life. We speak about the choice to either sink or swim, you will leave this episode on fire because of the simple fact that you are simply alive in this very moment.
Jealousy is not a bad word, and at one point of was definitely jealous of Jeff and we chat all about why it can be a good thing in this episode!
I recently had an awesome coffee date with my bestselling author friend Jeff Hilderman. We talked for hours, but it felt like minutes. Sometimes we don’t know our neighbours, but Jeff happens to be one of mine!
There are no absolutes in life and we should probably just roll with it right? I tried the other way, and take it from me it stunk! And as soon as I started to believe that there was something at play that I just couldn't see or understand, the more wonderful things started to happen! I want you to know just how unique and special you really are. Did you know it takes a star’s light more than 100 years to reach our night sky? By the time a star burns out, we wouldn’t know until years and years later, and each star is its own solar system? And our Milky Way galaxy is just one of a billion galaxies in our system? I read that in one of my children's books. Those are just things we know. What about what we don’t know yet? That alone lights my brain on fire! There are things around us that we can feel, but we cannot fully fathom, and that does not scare me . . . it excites me, as it should you!
The universe, or your version of the way we are all connected, made you. You! Out of infinite possibilities! You were meant to be here right now, in the form you are in, for a spectacular reason. The world, the universe, the cosmos wants to see you shine your brightest! Believe—believe that you were made with purpose, because you were. You were not only made with purpose, but you came into a world filled with endless possibilities. There are stars dancing around you filled with ideas, choices, and opportunities. Look around, behold them, observe them in wonder. You are a gift, and the world is on your side; listen to it, feel it, and bask in all its glory that you simply exist.
Trust me, I used to think this was all some weird magic hippie talk; however, my life shifted. With that shift I came to realize that the universe and the world did, after all, have my back. The more I put myself out there, the more the proof was there, simply by the decision to accept there is something magical happening all around me.
Flow in the river of life, lay back, feel the water around your body, and wonder in amazement how you got here and glory in the miracle that this river is holding you up because you trust the way in which it connects with every part of your body.

What if, what if we just flipped everything upside down and shook it all out? Like all the change in your pocket falling to the ground that was weighing you down. What if you stopped being a victim of your circumstance and began believing that the world has your back?
AND one thing that everyone LOVES to complain about is the social algorithm! What if we make friends with it? After all social media is all about connection and hey let’s face it, it’s free! It is a tool, a tool that is your friend! Your friend who has introduced you to all your buddies! What would you rather have a mass amount of random people not connecting to anything you’re saying or people who resonate with you and that you can become lifelong friends with? As soon as I flicked that switch out of being a victim and whining that it was against me is when everything started to shift. I have found my people, that is in itself one pretty extraordinary thing, one of my friends is just sitting in NY right now chatting with me like we are out for a coffee, and that IS all thanks to social media. So let’s just stop for a moment and say thank you! Thank you for connecting me to my people and continuing to do so! Enjoy this fun episode with quirky social media mastermind and amazing Artist Angie!

We sat with Guest Terri Broughton Artist and Educator this week. Hearing of her hardships in this life, it was hard to know what to say or how to react. Because the simple fact that she sat before me seemed like a miracle in itself. This woman. This resilient brilliant woman. Power. Love. Hope. Is what Terri represents. All that she has witnessed and been victim to played a vital role in how she has impacted the world around her.
As I sit out here watching the crisp fall leaves drift and dance whimsically from the tree tops I am reminded that time is always turning. The tree is honouring the season and shedding itself to sit dormant and still for the vast winter days ahead – trusting that in spring it will birth a new set of leaves and buds to blossom into its full potential. The tree trusts in its seasonal cycle and journey, all elements of its transformation are vital to its purpose on this earth.
On this fall day surrounded by burnt umber and every shade in between I can only ask myself. What brought me to this beautiful place and moment in my life? Everything that came before. Would I change it? No. I am grateful for my journey. The journey that strengthened my skin and prepared me for the sandstorms of what has happened and what I will walk through on my path through this life. My journey. Your journey. What a gift. What strength lies in those footsteps, one bravely placed in front of the next, not knowing what is to come, trusting that these are the movements and elements vital as are the trees to our purpose here on this earth.
Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces on this earth. Practice it whenever you can. Use it to impact the world. You have the ability and the choice to leave this place a better one than when you arrived.
Close your eyes, feel the breeze gently kiss your face. And know that wherever you are the wind will have your back.
Our challenge to you is to: practice gratitude everyday for 3 minutes for 30 days, you’ll be amazed how it can transform your life. And after you do you do you will never want to stop.

Hello Friends!
We are always free to chat email us: art@brandihofer.ca
Believe or not I manifested this NYC adventure. I always saw myself standing next to these women. I never focused on it too much, but I kind of just always knew… and here was my shot!
Well friend, as I sit here on a bustling cab ride on the way to the airport. I watch the sunrise peek over the horizon on the New York city skyline. Tears well in the bottom of my eyes. Goodbye New York, this won’t be the last time.
I met so many new faces who I connected with and they all messaged later saying they would catch me next time I was in the city. And every time I thought: it took all my might to get here, to this point in my life, “a jet setting artist I am not, is that a thing I could be?”. Next time felt like such an absurd concept. Like I just pop over to NYC at the drop of a hat or something… But was it really? Maybe not.
I met women who I have been working with and connecting online with for years, most of which are a part of a group called The Art Queens founded by Ekaterina Popova, a fellow artist and entrepreneur. Julianna Nauffel and her beautiful soul patiently walked me through the bustling streets of the city, vastly different comparatively from the quiet Canadian prairies. Julianna was caring, careful and sensitive as she did. I am not sure what I did to deserve her time, but she made my time in NYC the most memorable experience. She expressed to me the importance of why I was here. I was here not just for myself or my art. I was for all of the women and mother artists. I was here to show them that they too can accomplish anything they desire deep in their hearts, and that they too can pursue their passions in all of their forms. I took a brave leap. But as Glennon Doyle says “there is no map, we are all pioneers”. I am, you are, all our paths overlapping, and paving new.
Alicia Co-Founder of PXP had invited me to be a part of an all-female exhibition for the Affordable Art Fair in NYC. What an honour and privilege to have this opportunity. It did not go unnoticed, PXP was received the honourable mention for curatorial excellence!
Meeting these women was an out of body experience, I was in a constant state of shock, while at the same time felt like I had known them for most of my life and everything just fit. How did I find myself here? I had seen myself prior to this event, me standing with these women, celebrating creativity and abundance. And finally this was it. The precipice of my thoughts, motivation and goals. It was an extraordinarily ordinary moment in time. But all the while this nagging occurred, this cannot be all…
Ekaterina or as most of us call her Kat messaged me later that evening “I am so proud of you. I hope you know how magical you are. And how people admire you and how you light up in the room. Grateful for you and it’s just the beginning.”
A path that I have lit for myself and so many others. It took so much more and all of me to get here. But it is not the end. No.
It really is just the beginning.

In this episode we chat about just that. What has worked and what hasn't, and as Shannon always says "Just throw a bunch of spaghetti at a wall and see what sticks". We also discuss balancing time between motherhood and a creative career, you all are going to love this episode so much!
Shannon is a Canadian Artist, Educator, and Mentor living in Finland here is her BIO:
Creating art is where I feel most like myself. In making art I transition to a deep place inside that is both energizing and calming. I connect to my most authentic self when I can create and make art without boundaries. The people and places I meet through travel largely inspire my work. My artworks translate memories into abstract expressions. I was always an art kid growing up and knew that a creative life was the path for me. The journey to becoming a full-time artist was a bit of a winding road, and I am grateful every day to have found my place in living this magnificent creative life.
I am passionate about making art every day and mentoring other artists on their own creative journeys. As an art teacher, I found my passion for working with aspiring artists. Transitioning to a full-time artist has been the most exciting, scary and fulfilling experience of my creative career. I feel so fortunate to live this creative life where I also have the honour to mentor other artists on their own journeys.

Here is your fresh steaming cup of Weekend Inspiration - Are you burnt out?
Gosh life can sometimes feel just… hard. It's not like we are not grateful, that is not what we are saying here. We are beyond grateful for this beautiful life. Sometimes we feel heavy or sometimes there is just too much to handle! AND sometimes life just throws a wrench in things and someone backs into your van in a parking lot and you think I don't even have time to figure out what just happened and what the f*ck I'm going to do about it!
So if you're like us right now, and if life feels like a little too much here is our advice for you: Go the fuck to sleep. Get to bed. I've been hitting the pillow right after I get the kids to bed. Because I know that this month I need to be all there, on the top of my game. There is not room for burnt out Brandi or sick Brandi.
In order to take care of others we need to take care of ourselves first.
What does your self care routine look like?
What do you do to keep peace of mind?
What do you do to move your body?
How can you get some effing sleep around here?
For example: I love a quick run in the morning. I meditate here and there for 5 minute increments throughout the day and listen to self help books while driving. I put my self to bed asap because if I don't I might be the worst person in the world the next day!
Volta is originally from Moldova and is the founder of Color Snack and her mission to watercolor the world can be seen in the various projects such as brand activations, custom illustrations and animated GIFs that she creates for national and international brands (like Dallas Mavericks and Michaels Stores). She has taught thousands of students in her online and in-person watercolor workshops, where she encourages everyone to rediscover their inner artist.
She has been featured in D Magazine, Dallas Morning News, Dallas Observer, Create Magazine and others. And she is frequently interviewed on the topics of creativity, entrepreneurship and mindset.
Volta is the creator of Watercolor Meditations, a concept and online class that combines breathing exercises with watercolor techniques for a calming and relaxing experience.
Volta is also the co-author of Art+Affirmations, a creativity journal with prompts to explore and live a creative life. She has illustrated a paper weaving kids activity book that inspires a calm and centering experience. And most recently, Volta wrote her first book, titled Watercolor Snacks.

Notes from my upcoming book: Colour Me Happy! See your everyday ordinary as extraordinary
Embracing Imperfection
Something I really had to do once I included my kids in my studio process!
“How will you serve the world? What do they need that your talent can provide? That’s all you have to figure out. The effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is. Don’t let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory.”[1]
– Jim Carrey
The lovely thing is that you get to decide. You’re the captain of your own ship, the ship that will lead you to where you were always meant to be. One of the best things about putting it all out there and letting your fanny hang in the wind is you figure out the stuff you like and you get to keep doing it. This process is not an easy one—there are so many growing pains that go along with it and it dang sure will never be PERFECT! It’s an emotional journey, but an essential one on the path to finding out who you want to be.
Don’t be afraid to take leaps; it is the hardest part, but you must decide. It will seldom go as you had planned, but it will nevertheless move you forward into magical experiences that will surprise you with awe and wonder. You will never get things right the first time, but there is something to take away from each and every experience. They help you grow, and they are what makes you, you. Embrace every friggin part of your beautiful imperfection.
Why is okay for people to ask creatives to stop creating? Creating is a part of who we are, all of us. Learning to tap into that part of ourselves aids in mental health, creative problem solving, all out happiness and so much more! Make sure that you are showing up for yourself and your creativity. Make sure you are finding people who connect to you! You've got this! xo B

How do you find these people you ask? Let’s get you a lid for your pot!
Well first, you must make a list (lists are my favourite).
Describe yourself: interests, activities you enjoy, beliefs, pastimes, age, identity, occupations you are in or aspire to be a part of.

Weekend Inspiration - The Impact of an Educator and Giving Your Time to Others
One of the most rewarding and impactful things one can do with their abilities is to share in their passion with others. It is statistically shown that we feel much more rewarded when we give a gift than when we receive one. As we all know I love to say that time is our most precious commodity.
What if we gave people the gift of our time, our talents, our passion our love? What kind of impact could we make on the world?
This all makes me think of educators and what kind of person it takes to show up day in and day out with their time, their precious time. They are dedicated individuals that have shaped who we are and what we become as well as our children.
So who better to bring on this week to the CMH Pod but one of those people who truly impacted my life and thousands of others.
How can you be generous with your time?
This Week on our Colour Me Happy! Podcast
Stacey Mortenson my band instructor who has been at it for 27 years now, but still going like she is fresh out of university! Changing lives one day at a time! Stacey shows up, she shows up for her passion, she shows up for her students, and she shows up for her community. And how fortunate she showed up for us on this podcast. Passages from my book: Colour Me Happy! See your everyday ordinary as extraordinary
"The greatest gift you can give yourself is to find something that you are naturally adept at. And find out a way to make a living at it. Because if you do that, every day will be a play day. You’re never battling upstream. You love what you do. And if you love what you do, why do you want to stop doing it?"
–Judith Susan Blum (most of you know her as Judge Judy)
Not only do I see you and support you for who you are, I also believe that at this time we are too focused on what we “think” the world wants us to be and where we feel pressured to fit. We don’t fit, and we don’t need to fit. You and I are as unique as a snowflake; there is not one other person in this world that will ever be like you. You need to be the best version of yourself as a GIFT to this world. Why can’t you do what you love? Why can’t your ordinary day be simply extraordinary?
To start a shift and to make a change, you need to view all your life’s moments as building blocks adding up to the massive tower that you have built and are adding to, to see your world for what it really is: a beautiful life that is your great adventure. You need to soak in every single moment of each and every day. Be the most authentic version of you: wear-what-you-want, listen-to-what-you-want, create-what-you-want kind of person! You are in charge of your own destiny
There is also something missing here that you aren’t telling the reader- the second sentence is a non-sequitur to the first. What is wrong with the world that needs to be made better? I think this is a one sentence fix, something like: But I believe that we are too focused on X..or the world we live in is X….
I see you and support you for who you are. I also believe that we collectively need to make this a better world that our children can walk into. To do that is to view the building blocks of all your life’s moments adding up to the massive tower that you will build to see your world for what it really is: a beautiful life that is gifted to you every single moment of each and every day.
All the love,
Brandi

Weekend Inspiration - Make Space
As we enter into the end of the summer season here in Canada we can start to feel a little guilt about taking time off for ourselves. The summer is short, we need to be living, living in our present moment, soaking in our lives. We cannot just go go go all the time. It hit me pretty hard the other night when I realized it was the first time I spent time in my backyard and half the summer was already gone. We need to make space, take the time to breath and rest. The space will allow you a chance to recover, and a place for more magic and memories to happen.
Take care of yourselves friends, and take a break you deserve it!
All the love,
xoxo
Brandi
Trish!! This interview had us smiling all throughout! I was so cool to finally sit down with Trish! She shares some insiders design secrets and the interesting world that is HGTV and design and the BIG projects she is working on now. I got to know Trish a few years back as one of the artists featured in Sarah and Bryan Baeumler's "House of Bryan". IT was such a cool experience and I wanted you to hear even more about Trish's journey: design, work ethic, family life, and what she wasn't willing to sacrifice to find balance in her life.
Trish worked her way into and up in the design world. Diving in with such vigour. She walks us through her journey in the design world. Fast forward to landing her dream job at Canadian House & Home Magazine in 2004.
With an epic thirst for all things design and an unending work drive – Trish climbed her way up in the company and ended up becoming the driving force behind five Princess Margaret Lottery Dream Houses – three of them as lead designer. The full immersion of design and build in a short, often stressful time period was absolutely priceless in forming her own understanding and knowledge of every aspect of design and build.
With a desire for design independence and to explore even more artistic endeavours Trish Johnston Design was realized in January 2012.
Specializing in residential and commercial design her skills lead her to become a Design Expert on CBC’s Steven and Chris for four years, and co-designer on HGTV’s “House of Bryan–in the Sticks” and "Island of Bryan" with Sarah Baeumler. She also had the pleasure of being the lead designer on two seasons of HGTV’s Home to Win, Property Brothers Forever Home, Family Home Overhaul, and Save My Reno.
This episode really resonated with me and with the idea of just "Diving In". How many times in life have you not done something because you "weren't qualified" or it just scared the ever living crap out of you? So, don't just stand at the edge, don't just dip your toes in, DIVE IN! Start swimming" you will learn what you need to know along the way. Sometimes you will be taken by the tide and you will need to fight your way back and adapt, sometimes you'll float and soak in the warmness of the sea and the sun shining on your face, and sometimes you will be in awe of the wonder of it all! And where would you be if you hadn't dove in the first place?
xo Brandi

What can I say!
Verna the painter, muralist and author talking about not feeling like she belonged, pish posh! Feeling like she needed a degree when she entered the world of art. I have known her for a few years and from what I DO know is that is complete nonsense! Verna is driven, ambitious and ready to take on any project. She overcomes fear and takes on amazing endeavours head on! What did she do to overcome this imposter syndrome? She joined communities, found like minded creatives, and approached everything with an open mindedness to learn. Now she is a thriving artist, with an amazing style and I am happy to own one of her beautiful pieces in my home from her Vulva Collection.

You know what!? I am sick of trying to be the best at everything! The best mother, the best house, the best artist, the best partner, the best, the cleanest, the coolest, the happiest, the best the best the best. It's time I call it. It's time to LET IT THE FUCK GO! What do you think?
I just want to be me. And I want you to be you.Take it or leave it. Right? All my clothes have paint on them. I sometimes lose it on my kids. I am a good artist and I will paint wherever my heart pulls me. I am kind of clean, and that is okay. I am happy a lot, but sometimes I am really really sad. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. Sometimes I feel beautiful, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I feel so tired of it all that I want to quit. Sometimes I feel like I can change the whole entire world.
The art of letting go taking the time to reflect and reevaluate, well you ask, how do I do that? In my experience It's gonna take a bit of work...
Weekend Inspiration
We all have a lot to learn. It starts with kindness and compassion for one another.
There are no shortage of incredible women I have had the opportunity to learn from or support! In this pod episode we chat with indigenous photographer Randi Noble founder of Yellow Finch Images https://www.instagram.com/yellowfinchimages/
Randi is passionate about bridging community and sharing her indigenous roots. She radiates positive energy and is a magnetic force for women to come together. I look forward to working with Randi more in our community (stay tuned for more news on that). Randi is also the reason I have been invited to be a part of or local group Hear of Treaty 6 Reconciliation, and I am so honoured to be a part of it.
Randi speaks about the march herself and women in our community organized in support of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and the walk of Krista Fox across our country. Learn more here: https://www.mylloydminsternow.com/52382/news/mmiw-advocate-arrives-in-lloydminster/

In this episode we chat with this local BADASS Jessie Mann! She shares some impactful moments that changed the course of her life. The way she lives is inspiring and we know you will leave this episode feeling uplifted and lusting for life just as Jessie does! We discussed the subject of "I GET TO" and I remember when I first shared this last year and Jessie messaging me that I needed to write a book about it... Well friends here is a little sneak peek, our new book is due to come out August 4th:
This is the practice I like to call: I GET TO. When you wake up, the first thing you have to do is take into account what you get to do, not what you have to do. It is simply changing the words. Being grateful through subtraction. Simply put: you didn’t realize how important your right thumb was until you lost it. My mom’s friend once went snowboarding for the first time and broke both her wrists and was in two arm casts for months. I bet she was damn thankful when she got the use of her hands back! Could you imagine? Just think . . . how can you wipe your butt? Enough said. I GET TO HAVE HANDS.
“I get to’s.” Your “I get to” will be a lot different than mine, but I am going to share mine with you so you can come onto my plain for a minute:
I get to get out of my comfortable, safe bed that has soft sheets and the best pillow of all time. I get to be woken up by my happy, sweet baby and nurse him quietly before dawn, and before the world wakes up. I get to be alone in my thoughts with my baby’s tiny, chubby hands holding my cheek and he pauses to say, “I lalu too, mama.” “I get to” moments are the most precious. I get to step out of my bed with my healthy body and get to put on my running outfit and shoes and run my strong muscles and feel the fresh air on my face and feel exhilarated the whole time, taking in the peace and beauty of the world. I get to make breakfast for my special little family with the food we can pay for in our fridge and get them off to the school that is close enough to walk. I get to spend time with my tiny baby alone, because while funds are tight, we made it work for me to be able to play the role of a stay-at-home parent. I get to go into my studio and have the freedom and ability to create and write and connect and support with creatives and people from all over the globe. I get to greet my children after school when they walk home to our safe neighbourhood and play with other kids, while I make dinner. I get to read books and hear about all my children’s thoughts and dreams in their safe beds. I get to spend time with my husband and partner, take a warm bath, read, and go to sleep.
When you think about your “get to’s,” life becomes a cup that is half full! This just really makes you ponder: What do I already have? What do I have to lose? What is important to me?
Start at the beginning of your day and list your “I get to’s” below:

Halie Torris is on the mic this week and we just couldn't stop chatting in this recording! It felt like meeting an old a friend, however, we were meeting for the very first time. Pop us in your ear while you drive or when you're working, it will feel like your drinking coffee with friends! Halie speaks about her path to self discovery and the evolution of her creative career and success as an artist and tiktok sensation!
You choose your path. About a month or so before my mother passed away she kept saying, "you are in charge of your own destiny" It was her answer for everything. I would be late and apologize and she would just say "you are in charge of your own destiny". I would just think okay mom, whatever that means. However, it holds a lot more weight now. I was not at the time a mother myself, and I had not yet lost my mother.
After much time, and reflection since we held some heavy losses in the mix of becoming parents, there are a few things to take away from those experiences: There are not major events that make your life great, a great life is a series of small moments of each and every day. They all accumulate to a beautiful life.
It is about what you choose to do, it is about where you choose to go, it is about who you choose to surround yourself with and who you choose to be.

Naked - Stripped bare. That is how I showed up for this episode with Vanessa Clinical Director, Co-Owner and Certified Medical Aesthetician of Nouveau Laser and Aesthetic Centre. And if you hadn't noticed already I am open to sharing! Vanessa and I chat candidly about skin, acne, surprising facts about inflammation and more.

Wow! We are so excited that Alicia Puig took the time to sit down and join us for this episode, it was such a pleasure chatting with her. Alicia is one of the founders of PXP Contemporary Gallery, Director of Business Operations at Create Magazine, and Co-Author of The Complete Smartist Guide and arts writer and so much more! In this candid conversation Alicia is transparent about her journey and how she forged her path as a female minority. She shares her core values for creating a platform as an all-inclusive space.
I find it so inspirational that Alicia and many of the people she has partnered with created something that they felt was missing. Despite the effort, despite the work, and despite the fears, they overcame them and worked tirelessly to make their endeavours successful. We also cover the importance of setting up passive and sustainable income streams that support a small business and transform it into a thriving one.

Mother's Day featured guest Elli Milan, founder of Milan Art Institute. What can I say, I left this conversation uplifted. It made me feel like all my hopes and dreams were absolutely possible. Why?! Because Elli just has an air about her, and I don't think I am the only one who feels this way when they are around her. Taking her vision from a dream she had when she was 19 and passionately pursuing it throughout her lifetime. Elli was so kind to me to chat when she had very little time, that in itself is a reflection of who she is. I know you will enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
Our conversations really got me thinking about how in life all the small moments seem insignificant, we take them for granted. The motions of the day, just viewed as that: little, however small, they build, they build and build. All of the lives you touch, and moments you live, they really mean something. Every step, every motion, flowing, adjusting, moving forward, weaving you in and out, leading you in the beautiful slow dance of your life.
Happy Mother's Day, enjoy every step!

An all new solo episode all about perspective. And at the end of every day what matters most 🥰
Here I take you through following your journey and believing in yourself at any age or time in your life.
What can I say, I’ve fallen absolutely in love with teaching! It’s so fuuuun!!! 🎉 Which is no surprise, I get to hang out with people and make art so... I have been volunteering with some local youth and we have been having such a blast!
Here are some pics from the Hickman's after they took our Portrait Class!! Can you believe the painting that Ruby and Kristin Bexfield Hickman made?! Stunning am I right?!
https://www.brandihofer.ca/portraitclass
What can I tell you about this!? Well, it was magic from the start. A longer episode but worth every beautiful moment of conversation. Little did Kristin and I know what we would be doing months after this podcast recording.
I think it's only fair that I tell you the whole story. Kristin asked if she could bring her daughter Ruby over to our studio for her 12th birthday as a gift. The morning they were set to come over I messaged Kristin saying she should also draw a portrait along with Ruby and I. She of course said yes. After that afternoon they continued to work on their artworks over the weekend, and sent me progress shots. I was floored at how AMAZING their pieces were, I showed everyone I knew! I thought wow: I have to teach this to all the people I can, what a beautiful gift!
Kristin was so over the moon about reconnecting to her creativity and said that drawing her portrait was all she could think about. A day later I messaged Kristin saying we needed to capture this. If you gals loved this so much how cool would it be if we could inspire other people?!
There you have it folks, 15 + years of holding onto all my secrets and tips I finally reveal it all in our new PORTRAIT CLASS!
Portrait Class: https://www.brandihofer.ca/portraitclass
Collaboration is one of the most beautiful things you can do, lift someone else up, and create pure magic!

You are your own best advocate! You want to write a book, write one. Want to be a painter, buy some paint. Want to learn a different language, get an app. Want to win the lottery, buy a ticket. Just do it. No one is going to come knocking at your door and do it for you and give you the golden ticket to the life you’ve been daydreaming about.
Take leaps, do the things that send tingles down your spine and do the things that give you butterflies. If you’re not feeling the fear and the magic, then you’re not reaching high enough. This life is exciting and, let’s face it, we aren’t here forever. Cartwheel your ass out of bed and go do it for yourself!

Gearing up for Kindness Wins 2022! We are so honoured to have designed this years Kindness Wins Apparel line. Not only is this an initiative that is close to our hearts, it greatly impacts our community in a positive way! The campaign supports anti-bulling programming and initiatives in our schools as well as so much more.
It is such an honour to see our community join hands and come together through one common denominator we have all faced or are currently facing. For our 2022 Kindness wins design we wanted to carry over the use of the rainbow to symbolize that there is always brilliant colourful light waiting for you after the storm. The top portion of the design has 3 geometric shapes, this signifies the strength of the support in our community, and how much we care for one another. When we take one step further to make change we can help one person, but if we inspire others to take that same step: that is when we can change the world.
Put out your hand, join us, and positivity impact the lives of others. Together.
The Lloydminster and District Coop has been an integral part of the success of the KW campaign, be sure to get your Kindness wins shirt on February 2nd when they drop in store, they have a tendency to sell out pretty quickly!
Spiro’s is doing heart-shaped pizzas (5 flavours) and will donate $5 from each heart-shaped pizza sold to Beyond Borders (February 4 to 27)
Home Hardware Lloydminster is doing a Kindness Wins menu (dates and products TBC)

Would you ever be as hard on a friend as you are on yourself? I’m going to take a wild guess and say no. For some strange reason we feel the need to subject ourselves to these unattainable standards. They are unattainable for a reason, in the beauty industry they need to keep you to keep consuming, return customers are their business. They keep pushing the bar and we keep buying in.
But these standards, not just beauty standards but LIFE standards. Like how many things can we be juggling all at once?! I need to be the perfect mom, while having an amazing career, perfect skin, and a skinny but curvy body? Have your kid in every sport on top of going to school, look like an adult with their shit together, cook 3 homemade meals a day… shall I go on?! I do actually believe we can have some semblance of balance but it has nothing to do with having it all. It has all to do with how much you accept yourself.
“I remember the day I decided to love myself at every stage of my life.”
And to keep on doing so every day. This is me. This is you. Fucking rock it!

I AM SOOO PISSED OFF!
I was recommended to talk to a female entrepreneur who represented artists and presented them to galleries. I was excited, I was hoping I had found a woman who would believe in me and lift me up. It has been a beautiful few years where I am finally finding women in a male dominated industry Hizza! Was I ever effing wrong? I met with this industry professional, who didn’t take the time to get to know anything about my art practice prior to our meeting, which should have been a red flag right there.
What I took away from our conversation:
-From what I can see your stuff is cute (pardon fucking me?)
-So you are starting the conversation saying you are a mother? (yes, because I am, is there something wrong with that?)
-It's not like you are going to show in the MoMa or anything. Any gallery is going to look at you and all you're doing with your brand and say no. (oh so I can just be a painter, that’s it? WTF News for you, I already have gallery representation, they love me, I love them. Go fuck yourself.)”
-Your work can’t be purchased by serious collectors.
-Your collectors will be other stay at home moms
-Maybe you can sell diapers from your instagram
-I think you should take the word artist off your website
-Maybe you could get a wine sponsor (oh okay so I can promote day drinking, cool, I am 10 years sober, ya lets get some moms drunk at home with their babies, seems acceptable, like they aren’t going through enough already.)
-If you are going to pursue an art career it will be an uphill battle (fucking bring it on) I’ve done harder shit than this!)
-You need to decide what you want to be a brand or an artist (thanks for the advice I can be both, that is allowed)
-I mean you live in the prairies (and? I live in the most supportive amazing community with others who believe in me and support my journey. I just witnessed my small city raise 500,000 dollars in 12 hours. We are special and proud of where we live.)
At this point most of you know I am a mother and an artist and so many other things. I know it is unclear to some, but this is what I am, and I am not afraid to follow my course. Not many may have done this, and not many will do this in the same way. But I can tell you clearly that I am an artist. I do know that there are giant groups of mother’s paving their way through the art world. I've met them, they are stunning and empower one another, it is a beautiful thing.
The art world is severely female represented on all fronts (on top of the fact that only 16% of business owners in Canada are female, this isn’t happening just in the art world). Showing myself creating with my kids in my studio is a great statement. No we are not crafting, well sometimes we do, but to be honest I am complete garbage at crafts, this morning our gingerbread house was an epic failure. But it was fun, that is a part of my life and it’s okay that I share that side of myself.
I already know what the show is called “Motherhood through the ages” AND YOU KNOW WHAT MAYBE IT WILL SHOW AT THE MoMA. Maybe it won't but that doesn’t make it worthy or not.
I am stronger because of them. Want to know why, because motherhood has been the greatest challenge of all. I can push 3 mini fucking watermelons out of my vagina I can pretty much do anything I set my mind to. Art world, I am here and I am never leaving. I will find my people who believe in me, they will support me, and I them and if there isn’t room for us now we will make it.
So nice to meeting you lady, I hope I never speak with you again, thanks for lighting a grand fucking bonfire under my ass! Oh, and go fuck yourself.
I know I am not the only one who has gone through something like this, I want to hear your story, I want to talk about your story. Please reach out, let's get the conversation going, let's make change together.
You are going to love this especially in the middle episode with Cee Ng: entrepreneur senior digital producer project manager and business transformation consultant. She chats about her transition from the advertising industry working with global brands and Fortune 500 companies into being her own CEO of Live Learn Dream. She found the ceiling that she couldn't shatter as a female minority in that world so she took matters into her own hands. We really get into the intensity of her journey in this raw and compelling conversation.

How are you all winding down for the holidays?
I think we can all get lost in the hustle and bustle of: all the wrapping, the decor, and the gifting. Or if you run a small business like myself all the sales and what we feel obligated to do. This season I harnessed my power of no. After last year of capitalizing on the holiday action in my business I was left feeling well… Grinch like. When I should have been enjoying my family and laying into winter hibernation by my fire with a tea in hand, instead I was painting late into the evening hours.
I was burnt out, my magic gave gave and gave, have you ever had this happen? I wasn't nurturing my gift. It was a difficult choice to give up my main source of income, but I felt I had no choice but to stop. I trust that the space I made will be filled with adventures that I am meant to take.
It is a really beautiful thing to know that you can do anything, but you can't do everything. I am enjoying making small gifts for friends and family and making thank you gifts for the special people in my life.
This season I have been taking the world in around me. Do you believe in magic? Well, my kids sure do! It feels like lies and trickery but in the best way. And in no way do I want to trade this time for anything! I have been fully in charge of tour elf Zeddy and his 3 minion monkeys and I asked my partner to do it one night and all he did was tape the Elf to the T.V. Like where was the narrative and the mystery? COME ON REALLY?! So... needless to say, he was fired.
One particularly trying day we both forgot to take Zeddy on an adventure, only to wake up to some crying eyes...Gus thought he ruined Zeddy's magic by taking him to show and tell the day before, that absolutely broke my heart! Tune in to hear the rest of this story and how I pulled this shit off! So fun! What has been annoying about the elf though is Teddy wakes up at 5 am now screaming "poop chocolate chips in the dark"! I'm like noooooo, there are no chocolate chip poops waiting for you, go back to bed you tyrant!
And all those adventures I spoke of well… pssst... well, I actually know what some of these are (and they are BIG) but I can't say YET! I was scary when there was not a steady flow of orders, but I have adjusted and poured the extra time into my family (which as everyone knows with small children they demand all of you and more). I have worked steadily on my book (stay tuned to preorder, my gals over at Red Bicycle will be working on the jacket soon) and am enjoying sharing stories and empowering others in their journeys. More to come in the new year friends!
Take care of yourselves. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate you all, and wouldn't be able to do this without all the positive support and love!
All the Love,
Brandi

Finding support and receiving support is of vital importance to any small or independent business. I started to notice a particular business in our community was going above and beyond! I had to find out more. Karuna joins me from a local branch in our community Synergy Credit Union (this episode is in no way sponsored). I reached out to Karuna in order to stress the importance for any business large or small to support and uplift one another in any way they can. I am a huge advocate for collaboration above competition and we have an awesome conversation about it in this cast!

In this beautiful conversation with Illustrator Meagan McKenzie we reflect on moments over the past couple of years and how Megan founder her silver lining.
I recall the moments of panic and fear shaking the world around me. If there was a positive that came from this awful time it would be: As a whole we were forced to pause, step back, reevaluate our lives. The harsh reality of what luxuries we all took for granted: Our connection, our connection to our family, our connection to our friends, our connection to our community. We were all running on empty, with few fumes to ignite. Mindlessly going through the motions. How much more whole I have felt since I was forced to look at life from another lens.
How precious it has been that my family and I were fortunate enough to be safe and to be together, and how it saddens me that others were afforded that same luxury. How we evolve, and become stronger as a family, as a community, as a society, we are living history at this very time. And how the ever obvious facts that were forcefully shoved into our faces that we have to now accept: Time is our most precious commodity and moments are fickle and fleeting.

SOLO Rogue Episode!
A segment from my upcoming book releasing sometime hopefully (still working on it):
“Be more, make more, do more, have more, more, more, more, the basic instinct of our human nature, to acquire more. This is deeply ingrained in our biology, basic survival skills and instincts in order to survive things like: starvation and freezing to death. Gather more food to store for the winter, find the cave, build the hutch, have more wood to build a fire.At this point most of us have far surpassed acquiring and fulfilling our basic needs. And yet, the pressure to be more cripples our souls little by little, devouring tiny bits of our self esteem, fuels our anxieties like high pressure steam until we feel like the only thing left to do is implode from the inside out. It’s all we hear and ALL we consume of every minute of every day: be perfect, be smarter, be more successful, be the perfect partner, practice makes perfect, be the perfect parent, have the perfect home, live the perfect life, have perfect skin, be the perfect size. You don’t need to be more, you are enough. You will be enough and defined by the people you touch and impact, not the amount of followers or likes you have. You will be enough because of the way you love and laugh and cry and live.
You are enough.”

We have a long authentic chat with founder and CEO of Create Magazine Ekaterina Popova. Join us for this raw and fun conversation where we chat about everything from successes, failures, community, black bean cookies and Harry Potter!
Ekaterina Popova or Kat for short is an artist who believes that our entire life is a canvas and we have the power to create anything we desire. Her mission is to empower artists and give them the tools to take responsibility for their own career and find validation and success from within. She is the CEO of Create Magazine, Artist, leader of the Art Queens, Mentor Coach, Author and so many other beautiful things!
HERE IS THE COOKIE RECIPE YOU ALL ASKED FOR!! XO
Brandi’s Cookies (otherwise known as POOP COOKIES)
If you are like me you will in a rush flop all these things into a giant mixing bowl without measuring and hope for the best, if you aren’t like me and love to measure here are the approximate kind of things I throw in (there is a lot wiggle room with these) have fun! BONUS these are gluten free and full of protein and other good things, that ultimately make you poop…
WET
1 can of black beans with juice
2 eggs
1 cup of brown sugar (or any sugar substitute)
1 tsp salt
6 dried dates (if you have them if not fuck it, but they make them chewy and more delicious)
1/3 cup nut butter (any kind)
¼ cup of butter
¼ cup plain yogurt (again not against the law if you don’t have it)
¼ cup hemp hearts (for digestion and other good stuff)
¼ cup chia
Blend with that blender stick thing (if you don’t have one you need to get one) until the cows come home!!!
DRY (don’t blend)
½ cup almond flour
½ cup coconut shredded
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup pumpkin seeds
You can add or take away any other kind of nut my favorite thing is to add cashews because they are amazing in these!
1 cup oats
1 cup of dark chocolate chips
I hope that’s everything!
Give or take any of these ingredients, get creative! I make about 60 of these on a big cookie sheet placing them very close together because they don’t move. We keep them in the freezer for some reason they are the BEST that way! I have 4 boys in the house and these are gone in 48 hours! The most amazing part is that I eat these instead of reaching for junk and they keep this busy Mama’s energy high because they are packed full of protein and other good stuff! Enjoy! Xoxo
