In The Odyssey, Book 10, Odysseus refuses Circe’s invitation until she swears a binding oath to do him no further harm. Only then does he accept her hospitality. He is bathed, clothed, and honored with careful ritual, yet even amid warmth, food, and rest, his heart remains troubled. His thoughts stay fixed on his transformed companions and the harm already done.
This passage underscores that survival alone is not peace — memory and responsibility linger long after the immediate threat has passed.
