Carried Home in Godlike Sleep (Homer’s The Odyssey, Book 13 – Part 2)

With prayers poured and farewells spoken, the journey turns quiet at last. Odysseus does not steer this passage—he is carried.

In this passage of The Odyssey, the Phaeacians prepare Odysseus for departure with gifts, garments, and food, guiding him gently to the waiting ship. As the oars strike the water and the vessel surges forward with unmatched speed, Odysseus falls into a deep, deathlike sleep, borne across the sea without waking.

This moment matters because the long-suffering hero finally rests—his return set in motion not by struggle or cunning, but by trust, generosity, and peace.
